Title: The new list: UP: List Of Mods/Changes Added To VTMB
Post by: Schu on June 02, 2011, 02:25:21 AM
Well the new list is done and its a long one. For the sake of accuracy I am only showing the "Basic" version of Wesp's UP in this list, so I dont want to hear "you left parts of the plus version in your list" or "you didn't use his change log". It's a moot point and it's Wesp's patch notes. So dont even think it. I'm just trying to show those who dont understand (or are too lazy), what Wesp has done to Bloodlines over the years.

I also removed the listing for Turvy's tools, DanUpRight's work, the True Patch and offkorn's work, because they can be found in another list. Which is sticked on this broad. Also for the sake of size I have removed the listings for versions 1.3 to 3.5, which is before Wesp created the so-called basic and plus patch versions. The total number of changes for basic will not be altered.

Some of the actual fixes in the Unofficial Patch and even a couple of the mods (that could be considered fixes), are similar as what is found in the True Patch. The big difference is, that the TP was designed and built to fix the bugs in the original game without altering it to the authors personal preference. I can not say the same about the UP, it has been altered too the point that it no longer resembles the original game. Dont get me wrong here, I love modding my games, mods can add re-playability to an old game, but Wesp forces his mods/restorations on the users of the Basic UP, not just the Plus+ version users. That said, on to the list.

Sorry for what looks like a jumbled mess, but this site apparently doesn't like open office.

Unofficial Patch Basic/Wesp5      v1.3 to v7.5      5/2011

Quoted from Wesp5's own patch notes:
The default basic patch fixes multiple bugs and restores only unused content that has little impact on the gameplay. The optional plus(+) patch adds further improvements and restored content, see changelog.

Judge for yourself, but the comment in orange is a false statement "in my opinion, and the statement about the so-called plus(+) patch is misleading.

Legend for comments
POSSIBLE FIX = Maybe a true bug fix or one Wesp created himself
? = Questionable, maybe a real bug fix or something Wesp created, uncertain about listing
RESTORATION = Put back to original state
N D = Need details, need more details why it needed fixing. More information please
W B = Something Wesp broke threw a previous change or mod

804. It seems the new Python version in the 7.6 patch has issues with Windows 7 64 bit.   (W B)(CHECK 801)
WHAT? Yeah right wesp, 2.7 works just fine in Win 7 64bit, any programer worth a shit, knows that if you change a coding/scripting engine you must also change the code/script to match the new engine. I'm new to coding/scripting and even I know that. Maybe you should go back to school.

There are a lot of things that have been changed/altered that are not in Wesp's patch notes. Like the fact that he put cop cars on the main hubs or that he put a pad-lock on the gate for the oil tanks where Bertrum Tung is hiding. Thats not even mentioning that he and someone else broke the console (that, is in the notes check-572).

On the issue with the cop cars.

One: It is killing the ambiance of the game. We are supposed to be a vampire in a dark, seedy, underworld that we will never see in real life...but wait. Here comes Wesp...he will put in cop cars to make us feel safe and at ease.

Two: I know Wesp has never been to L.A., or he would know better. I have lived in Harbor City, Wilmington and Santa Monica, so I can tell you this. You are lucky if you see even one cop car a day in those areas. The only reason you see so many cops downtown or in Hollywierd, is because of gang activity or to help protect the tourists.

Addition: I have found that Wesp has removed the cage dancers at Confession, in his 7.9 basic version, as well as a few other mods.
I also found that he added Italian graffiti on the side of Fat Larry's truck (I don't know what version added that).
Title: Re: The new list: UP: List Of Mods/Changes Added To VTMB
Post by: Tessera on June 02, 2011, 06:32:02 AM
Thanks for the good work, Schu. Speaking as someone who is intimately familiar with the nuts-and-bolts of VTMB, I'll just comment upon a few key points...

The first thing that becomes obvious is the fact that roughly half (or more) of the "repairs" listed in Wesp's patch notes are things that were -not- broken in the original game. They were things that Wesp himself broke in previous versions of his work, thanks to his own ineptitude. So then later on, Wesp goes back and fixes his own fuck-ups, in a later version of his UP... and very cleverly neglects to mention WHY he had to make those repairs. Which in turn misleads the end user into thinking that Wesp has fixed all sorts of legitimate bugs when in fact, none of those bugs existed within the original "plain vanilla" game. Well gee, Wesp... what a surprise.

I've been saying for years that Wesp's "patch" has managed to introduce more bugs than it actually fixes... and Schu's detailed listing has now confirmed that assertion. This is important... because I've seen many comments out there which say something along the lines of "Well, Wesp's patch fixes more bugs than the True Patch does." Actually no... it does not. But I can understand why some people may have been misled into thinking that it does, after reading Wesp's endless list of supposed bug fixes. But now that Schu has actually analyzed Wesp's patch notes in detail, it is quite clear that the bulk of Wesp's "repairs" were the result of things that WESP HIMSELF BROKE. Hence his bloated patch notes.

The True Patch, on the other hand, has NEVER introduced any new bugs to Bloodlines. We either fixed something that was legitimately malfunctioning within the original game... or else we left it alone. That's what any legitimate patch should do: fix bugs, not introduce new ones. Why do you think I called it the "True Patch" in the first place..?  ;)

Back to Wesp's UP fiasco...

Of the remaining items on that list, most of them represent completely arbitrary modifications to the game. Those items were not broken, nor were they malfunctioning in any ways whatsoever in the vanilla game. Wesp and his adolescent followers simply decided that the game would be "better" if those items were modified. That's not a patch -- that's a mod.

I laughed when I saw his note about the screen fonts. There is nothing wrong with the screen fonts in VTMB, aside from a small error in the letter "W" file from the Intimidation font set (which I repaired in the True Patch). If Wesp or anyone else is having trouble reading things in Bloodlines, then I suggest getting a larger monitor. Or maybe get an eye exam... you might need glasses. But resizing the fonts is completely unnecessary and might actually end up making the game look too "console-ish," for lack of a better term.

I always wondered why Bertram Tung never reacted to being smacked... until I looked at the SM hub map file. He was set that way on purpose by Troika, to prevent him from possibly wandering away from a couple of hidden map triggers in his lair. Hence he remains rooted in one place and will not engage the player in combat. Venus Dare inside the Confession Club is rooted in the same way and for the same reason. This was a design choice by Troika, and it represents a concession to the imposition of required map mechanics. What Wesp has done here is to potentially introduce another NEW bug which did not exist in the original game.

Another big chunk of those patch notes seems to be filled with lots and lots of completely arbitrary texture and model changes. I have no doubt that many of those changes were pushed into the UP by inept "modders" (and I use that term loosely), such as Moocha and a few others from the PV crowd. I wouldn't let those untalented bozos re-skin my copy of Diablo II... let alone a game as beautiful and intricate as Bloodlines. But once again, Wesp is making his PV buddies happy... and simultaneously forcing those arbitrary (and amateurish) changes upon EVERYONE who unwisely installs his UP.

Now then, regarding Wesp's "restoration" of unused floats:

First of all, we need to explain to everyone what a "float" refers to in VTMB. Specifically, floats are audio files, which contain spoken incidental dialogue for various NPC's. A float is triggered when the player gets within a certain distance and angle to the NPC in question. When you get close enough, it triggers a float line and the NPC will mutter something or other in response. Usually, these lines of incidental dialogue are really just a bunch of muttering... such as "Sorry, no speak English" for the Chinese girls, or "A little deodorant tonight maybe, baby?" for Misti in Vesuvius. Stuff like that... just a bit of ambient chatter.

During the creation of my own VTMB Mega-Mod, I played around quite a bit with all of those unused float lines. And as I was testing them out, I quickly began to realize why Troika had DECIDED to disable most of them in the final game. The reason is because when you enable all of those float lines, the NPC's start to become REALLY annoying and idiotic after awhile. They repeat the same lines often... and as a result, they become less believable as real people. Instead, they come across as a bunch of mindless, chattering automatons. So in my own Mega-Mod, I decided to use only a very select few of those previously unused float lines. I left the rest of them disabled... as they should be.

If you have ever played TES: Oblivion and listened to the incidental conversations that occur between the NPC's in that game, then you will get an even better idea of what I am talking about here. At first, it is delightful to hear the NPC's talking at odd moments. It seems to add more realism to the game, right..? Well... wrong. Because after awhile, their dialogue ends up becoming a cacophony of idiotic chatter... to the point where it can actually become immersion-breaking. Eventually, the player ends up shouting "SHUT UP, already..!!! You sound like a fucking ROBOT..!!!"

Hence the omission of most of the float lines from the final version of VTMB. I have no doubt that after they did a few test runs, Troika noticed the same immersion-breaking factors as I did and thus, they wisely decided to scrap most of those floats from the final version of VTMB. So once again, Wesp has re-inserted a bunch of cutting room floor garbage back into Bloodlines... without once considering whether or not it actually belonged there. "Oh goody... look at what I found..!!! Let's put this back into the game, even if it sucks..!!!" As usual, Wesp is laboring under the "more is always better" mindset... which in the case of an atmospheric RPG like Bloodlines, is entirely the WRONG mindset for anyone to adopt. Mood and atmosphere are FAR more important in an RPG than simple bells and whistles.

I will finish up my comments about the float lines by pointing out something else that everyone may not be aware of. Those unused float lines were not omitted because of a lack of time on Troika's part. They were omitted ON PURPOSE by Troika. How do I know this..? Because I know how those lines are triggered, that's why. Whenever an NPC was added to the map, Troika started with a set of default map entries which are common for every single NPC. Those default entries included references to float lines and float frequency. The float files had already been recorded and the float directories had already been established... hence the game maps were automatically generated (at first) with all of those float references included. TO DISABLE THEM MEANT HAVING TO GO BACK INTO THE MAPS AND EDIT OUT THOSE FLOAT LINES ONE AT A TIME, which is obviously MORE WORK on Troika's part. Get the picture..? Those float lines had to be DELIBERATELY DISABLED by Troika, otherwise ALL of them would be functioning by default. Bottom line: the float lines in VTMB were disabled because that is the way Troika wanted the game to be. DISABLING THEM WAS INTENTIONAL ON TROIKA's PART. IT HAD TO BE.

Sorry for the rant, but most VTMB players have no idea how the nuts-and-bolts of this game operate and hence, they can be very easily misled by an egocentric jackass like Wesp. Those are not "restorations," folks. Troika took out the garbage... but then Wesp ran out to the curb, and hauled it right back into the house. Errm, so to speak.  :P

The same can be said for a shocking number of the remaining items on that huge list.

Once again, I wish to thank Schu for taking the time to do a line-by-line analysis of Wesp's deceptively mislabeled "unofficial patch." The more we dig into Wesp's patch notes, the more horseshit we discover.

I lived in Hollywood for 12 years. You are absolutely correct. 100 percent. There's a few cops who patrol the tourist traps and as for the rest of town, it's basically an un-patrolled war zone. Troika did it right -- and Wesp is doing it wrong. But what else is new.

Your welcome, I was happy to do it, but I will not ever do something like this again  :P Though I have to admit, it was an interesting experience, going through his patch notes, then testing the different versions of the UP, then going through the UP files to try and find what he did to break it. As the vets of these boards know, I had been at this for a couple of months.

The highlighted part of this quote is one of many reasons I use the True Patch. If anyone looks carefully at some of my comments, you will see that Wesp "fixed" some invisible Python bugs. One of the things I have learned as a CNC machinist (and now an amateur Python programer), is that some times you have to introduce a bug (or a command that makes no sense) into the program to get the program to work properly and that doesn't mean it will create an error. It is usually done to prevent the system from malfunctioning. Wesp apparently doesn't know this, because those so-called invisible Python bugs may be there for a good reason, which means he may have introduced a new bug or as many as 100 (it could even cause the system to crash), depending on the bug, and there are quite a few still in Bloodlines.

"If it ain't broke dont fix it." I honestly believe that Acrimonious and Tessera know this well and my hat is off to them for doing such a great job.

Indeed. Back when we were creating version 5.04AT of the True Patch, that saying became a sort of mantra for us both. There were lots of times when one or the other of us would bring up a particular issue that we discovered within the game files... and whenever we had a dispute over how to handle it, we would fall back upon that mantra. "Is it actually broken..? No..? Well then, if it ain't broke, then don't fix it."

And believe me, we had plenty of small disputes along the way. But since our ultimate goal was to avoid introducing arbitrary changes as much as possible, we ended up tossing lots and lots of ideas into the waste basket. We were making a patch -- not a mod. So all of those nifty ideas were shelved, on the assumption that we could always include them within an optional VTMB mod in the future.

Anyway, that happens to be my own personal set of ethics, when it comes to producing third-party patches. The end user should always be allowed to play the actual game that they paid for... not someone else's arbitrary and subjective rewrite of it. It isn't up to me to force any changes whatsoever upon the end user that weren't absolutely necessary. I'm not a dictator.

But obviously, Wesp and his crew have an entirely different set of ethics... or maybe they don't care about ethics at all. You be the judge. I've already made up my mind about Wesp, a long time ago.

Well now, I am really surprised that none of the UP users have come here to comment on this list, even jerky is silent (I think we scared him off Tessera). It has been up for 10 days now and I even got a PM on the Steam forums from Wesp about it, yet I still only hear crickets.

Like I said before and I'll say it again. I am not above altering/correcting the list for accuracy, but you must bring solid information on what and why a certain part should be changed (no generalizations please, that means no more change logs, the list is long enough as is) and dont try and pick a fight/argument.....that will lead to nowhere, plus you will lose. I want good info not opinion, also if you are asked a legit question, just answer it, dont continue to argue a moot point to step around the question.

Because they know that it's accurate -- and they don't have any rational rebuttal for it. What could they possibly say..?

All you did was to create a list of exactly which things were arbitrarily altered by Wesp... in -every- version of his grotesquely mis-labeled "patch." You didn't make any of that stuff up... it was taken directly from Wesp's own patch notes, along with your own examinations of Wesp's code blocks. And anyone who wanted to could easily verify your list as being 100% genuine.

Sure, you've expressed a few personal opinions about Wesp's changes along the way, but personal opinions do not negate the facts of the matter.

So if you were one of Wesp's acolytes, then exactly what sort of retort would you have for a topic like this..? Because I'm a smart guy and I can't think of a single argument to make against it. The facts are the facts. Not liking a fact doesn't make it any less true. But try telling that to the PV pee-wees, who spend half of their time sucking Wesp's cock and the other half pretending to be a cute little carebear Rambo with fangs.

It is what it is... and it proves beyond all doubt that it has been Wesp... not us... who has been lying through his Kraut teeth for the past six years. He has stolen work from others (including from us), he has lied about a plethora of arbitrary changes that he has introduced to VTMB without any justification, he has been engaged in a perpetual circle-jerk with the entire PV community, and he more or less does anything and everything that they ask him to do. Just kiss Wesp's wrinkly balls and he'll give you whatever you want... no matter how dumbed-down, ridiculous, childish, inappropriate or overpowered it might be. And then, he imposes all of that unwarranted crappola upon EVERYONE who unwittingly downloads and installs his horrible "unofficial patch."

I love this topic. It makes me feel vindicated, after five years of accusing Wesp of all of the above... and being publicly lambasted for doing so. Many thanks, Schu.  8)

Yeah, you're most likely right. I guess I'm just getting tired of Wesp's PMs over on Steam. Maybe I'll just stop checking that account all together and maybe he'll figure it out that, that is not the forum for the discussion.

For you UP supporters, maybe Wesp should check forums and his own notes more often. He brought up the cop cars for the second time in his PMs to me and I remember very clearly that he mentioned having to do something about the cop car he put in front of Bertrums home, so that people could get threw the gate. I dont remember if it was on the Steam or the PV forums, but when I find it again I will post the link in this post.

Heh... has Wesp managed to offer any defense for his slew of lies about the supposed "repairs" that his UP features..?

I'm referring to all of the bogus "repairs" which turned out to actually be things that Wesp himself broke, in previous iterations of his rotten "patch."

Which... we now know... accounts for more than half of the "repairs" that Wesp keeps listing within his patch notes.

And so far as the whole cop cars issue, it was completely idiotic and downright WRONG for Wesp to have added them in the first place. I have already said why, earlier in this thread. I could add a hundred cop cars to any map, if I wanted to. But they do not belong there, period. The presence of extra cops simply undermines and destroys the entire lore of the game. Not that Wesp ever gave a shit about lore and canon, mind you. I think that much has already been made clear by Wesp, on numerous occasions. "Fuck the lore... fuck the canon... let's just do whatever we wanna do and then force every single other UP user to accept all of this insane crappola."

Wesp should go to work for Electronic Arts. He'd be right at home there.... destroying masterpieces and undermining brilliantly creative people. He'd be a natural for that job. He should send them the UP as his resume.

Sorry for the very late response Tess, to answer your question, NO, but he has admitted (at least on the Steam forums) that he was the one who caused an issue, when a few people bitch about it. To date my favorite Wesp bug is when he changed the Python engine from 2.1 to 2.7 without editing the script to match, then placing the blame on Win 7 instead of himself.

Okay, to let everyone know why I popped back in to this thread. I am working on adding the UP's 7.6, 7.6a and 7.6b to the OP along with my usual banter and uncalled for comments  ;D as well as some miner changes I missed before.

EDIT: I added the new info, I still got to do some editing though.

So, Wesp has NOT admitted to it. Typical.

There are literally dozens and dozens of bogus "repairs" listed in Wesp's patch notes. Not just a few... but DOZENS AND DOZENS of them. All of them are references to things which were NOT broken in the original, plain-vanilla game -- but they are in fact things which Wesp himself broke, in previous versions of his horrible "patch." And yet, despite having it laid out for him right here in black and white, Wesp continues to dodge this issue and pretend that all of his supposed "fixes" are legitimate. Well I'm sorry Wesp but no, a large percentage of your "fixes" are not legitimate and therefore, neither is your inappropriately named "unofficial patch."

Jesus, what a bullshit artist he is. For the past five years, Wesp has accused me of "lying" about his work. Well I swear to you people that I have never done any such thing... and this thread right here proves it. We have finally dissected Wesp's patch notes... point for point... something which Wesp probably thought that we would never actually bother to do. Oh really..?

Well, thanks to Schu's excellent efforts, we have indeed gone ahead and done it, Wesp. And guess what..? Guess who the liar turned out to be, Wesp..? I'll give you a hint: this thread proves that it was NEVER me who was lying. It's all right here, in no uncertain terms. And keep in mind that I did not create this thread, nor did I ask anyone to create it. Schu went ahead and did this on his own, after he got tired of seeing all of the lies and obfuscations coming from Wesp and his viral goon squad. So who does that leave, Wesp..? Who is the self-serving asshole who has been shamelessly lying to Bloodlines players for the past six years (and counting)..? If you are still unsure who the real liar is Werner, then just take a look in the mirror. You've been bullshitting people about the contents of your idiotic "patch" ever since 2005, Wesp. You know it, I know it, and now... thanks to Schu... the entire world knows it, too. This thread is posted in the public section of our board, Wesp... which means that it has already been thoroughly indexed by Google and other search engines. In short, anyone can find it and read it... and they HAVE been. There have already been tens of thousands of Google hits on this topic. Obviously, the larger Bloodlines community cares a great deal about the truth.

Stick a fork in Wesp... he's done.

Damn Steam and their sales, the forums over there are fucking nuts right now, and poor, poor Wesp is finding out how fucked up his mod is by all of the complaints. The only complaint I have seen about the TPG is not being able to get into the tessmage site.

I am glad to see that so many people are finally starting to see the light. And to think -- it only took six years..!!! LOL. But hey... better late than never. Wesp has absolutely ruined this gem of a game and I am relieved to see that a growing number of Bloodlines players are finally waking up to that fact. I know that my own behavior has been less than diplomatic during the course of this "patch war," but the fact remains that I have always been telling everyone the truth about Wesp and his horrible "patch." It truly is an abortion... and everyone who wishes to play Bloodlines bug-free should avoid Wesp's unreliable kiddie krap and stick with the True Patch.

Aspiring VTMB modders should likewise build their mods on top of the True Patch and use that version of the game as their standard. In time, the larger VTMB community will thank you. Not only is the True Patch more streamlined and reliable, but unlike Wesp's work, it isn't being revised and re-issued every second Tuesday. So if you are looking for a stable and consistent platform upon which to build your mods, then the True Patch is your very best option. That's the bottom line.

And listen up, people: whether you like me or hate me makes no difference. The facts are still the facts, regardless of anyone's personal feelings. It has never been my goal to be everybody's little friend. I'll leave that kind of idiocy to insecure people-pleasers like Wesp. No, my primary concern has always been the integrity of Bloodlines, as well as what is in the best interests of the larger Bloodlines community. Period. End of story.

QuoteThe only complaint I have seen about the TPG is not being able to get into the tessmage site.

This is an adults-only web site. It is not open to kids. This shouldn't be an issue however, because in my considered opinion, Bloodlines is an adults-only game. So if you are old enough to play Bloodlines in the first place, then you should be old enough to join tessmage.com, too.

And also, there are quite a few IP's out there which have been abused in the past (by spammers, hackers and so forth), so many of of those IP's have been permanently blocked from accessing this board. I did not create that problem... I merely responded to it, by taking preemptive action.

I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that this might cause to a small handful of legitimate users... but it could not be helped. My suggestion would be to complain to your internet service provider, and demand that they do a better job of regulating the malicious activities coming from the users of their own network. It is their responsibility to fix this problem... not mine. My sole concern is to keep this board free from any nitwits, under-aged babies, spambots and troublemakers.

And now, let's get back to the topic of this thread. I'd just like to make a comment about one of the random items in Wesp's patch notes. I'll quote Schu first, and then add my own comment:

"Made Tseng not offer blood as he doesn't even know about vampires.         (MOD)"

Please tell us, how do you know this? Do you happen to be Brian Mitsoda or Tim Caine in disguise? Thats real smart....get rid of 1 out of 2 blood venders in the game. Oh I'm sorry you killed or pissed off Vandal now you cant buy any blood, to bad for you, if you use the UP.

This is indeed idiotic. Not to mention that Wesp is employing inconsistent logic. If Tseng doesn't know about vampires, then we may as well deduce that he doesn't know about the power of occult items, either. Why..? Because for him not to know about vampires would mean that he is oblivious as to the existence of supernatural entities in our world. Which incidentally has NOT been established about Tseng in ANY of the lore from this game. We have no idea what Tseng knows or doesn't know. But okay, if Tseng doesn't know anything about the supernatural, then that also includes magical occult items, does it not..? And yet Wesp did not take those away from Tseng's list of items for sale... he only removed the blood bags.

Now before anyone says "But there is a difference between blood bags and weird trinkets," let me remind you that to make assumptions about one... but not about the other... is both baseless and irrational. Wesp is going to have to do better than that... especially if he is once again going to take it upon himself to fuck up a major game mechanic in Bloodlines.

Blood bags are not a magical item... they are not supernatural... they are simply blood bags. There is no reason not to sell them, if there are people who want to buy them. Tseng could have any number of reasons for selling such things -- not the least of which is the fact that there is an enormous coven of Keui-Jin living RIGHT DOWN THE STREET from his shop. So maybe they buy blood bags sometimes. Or maybe they don't. Or maybe there's a Satanic cult around the corner who buys them. Or maybe there's a freaky crack whore living upstairs, who likes to roll around in human blood when she has sex. IT DOESN'T MATTER. The fact remains that Wesp has once again taken it upon himself to interfere with the lore of Bloodlines and make all sorts of poorly considered value judgments. In short, he is once again second-guessing Troika, as Schu has already pointed out.

Wesp's amateurishly conceived "patches" are filled from top to bottom with shit like this. But I just wanted to home in on this particular example, so as to illustrate an important point about Wesp's work in general.

Thanks for post about the ISP's, I'll pass that info on to the Steam boards.

As far as Tseng gos, you're right, we dont know enough of his history or his place in Bloodlines lore. To add to what you posted, Tseng could also be selling the blood to the Tong for medical purposes.
Title: Re: The new list: UP: List Of Mods/Changes Added To VTMB
Post by: Tessera on July 31, 2011, 04:38:39 PM
Well the thing is, some of the blood that Tseng is selling is "blue blood," which does indeed have some supernatural properties (for vampires).

But that fact changes nothing. We don't know diddly-squat about Tseng. He could be somebody's ghoul, for all we know. Or he could be an occultist, in league with Mr. Ox across the street. The bottom line is that Tseng's character is largely undefined... so he could be anybody. Or anything.

Therefore, for Wesp or anyone else to make flat statements about who Tseng is and what he knows is absolutely baseless and unjustified. It is yet another example of Wesp dumping an arbitrary change into the game on a whim... and not for any good and rational reasons.

Schu,

Have you looked into the allegation that in addition to all of the other things which you have mentioned, Wesp has also added files to his "patch" which do not do anything at all..?

I am referring to a bunch of files which, so far as I can tell, Wesp has added to his "patch" simply to "pad it out," meaning that he added them simply to make his patch look bigger and more comprehensive than it actually is.

Here... I'll give you a random example...

Within Wesp's "patch" are a ton of model files. This would of course lead one to think that Wesp and his pals have somehow managed to make all sorts of repairs to various Bloodlines models. Or more accurately, Wesp's contributors have supposedly performed a bunch of model repairs, not Wesp... because I know for a fact that Wesp himself does not possess the necessary skills to modify 3-D Source models and textures. Wesp is just a nuts-and-bolts guy. He lacks the knowledge to work on models and textures -- and he has admitted as much. So any such repairs that you find within Wesp's "patch" were most certainly performed by people other than Wesp.

But okay, back to my example...

Just for kicks, I opened up a few of the supposedly "repaired" model files from Wesp's "patch" in a nifty little utility called a binary hex comparator. What this utility does is to examine a pair of binary files and then display any and all differences between the two files. And since it is looking directly at the binary hex code itself, it is essentially fool-proof. If any differences exist... no matter how tiny... then the hex comparator will find them.

Well, guess what..? When I compared a few of the model files from Wesp's "patch" to the original, default versions... yup, you're already getting ahead of me... I found NO DIFFERENCES AT ALL. Nothing... not even the most tiny of differences exist between the original Troika files, and the identical files from Wesp's "patch."

In short: Wesp placed those files into his "patch" simply to make it look bigger and more impressive. But in reality, the files that Wesp added to his "patch" are 100 PERCENT IDENTICAL TO THE ORIGINAL FILES IN EVERY SINGLE RESPECT.

Conclusion: those files were not "repaired." They are in fact exactly the same as the original versions... right down to the last byte of data.

Well then, why did Wesp add them to his "patch" in the first place..? Why would anyone add unaltered files from the original game into a supposed "patch..?" To deceive people..?

So anyway, I was just wondering if you had taken a look to see if there are any other examples of this "patch padding" by Wesp.

***********************
TECHNICAL STUFF FOLLOWS:
***********************

Just so people don't think that I am making this up, let me show you a screenshot of an actual pair of files loaded into my hex comparator program. The first file is the original file from the game. The second file underneath it is the exact same MDL (model) file, but taken from Wesp's "patch." According to Wesp, the file from his "patch" has been "repaired" in some miraculous way. But let's see what happens when we ask the hex comparator to examine both files and display any differences between their actual code:

Here are the screenshots, showing the two files loaded up one above the other, and me asking the comparator to search for any and all differences between them:

(http://www.tessmage.com/images/misc/Wesp_Patch_Files_Hex_Comparison_01s.jpg) (http://www.tessmage.com/images/misc/Wesp_Patch_Files_Hex_Comparison_01.jpg)

(http://www.tessmage.com/images/misc/Wesp_Patch_Files_Hex_Comparison_02s.jpg) (http://www.tessmage.com/images/misc/Wesp_Patch_Files_Hex_Comparison_02.jpg)

NOTE: I had to shrink those images down in order to fit them onto this page. Click on each image if you would like to see the full-sized version.

The file on the top is the original, unaltered file from Bloodlines. In this case, it is a female biped model used during the opening courtroom scenes from the intro of VTMB.

The file on the bottom is the model file of the same name, taken from Wesp's "unofficial patch."

Hmm... no differences of any kind whatsoever. How peculiar. So then, I asked the hex comparator to print out a complete list of all differences which occur anywhere within the two files being examined. And this is what it had to report:

Different between:
First file: "E:\VTMB_TPG_Test_Copy_NO_MODS\Vampire\models\cinematic\santa_monica\courtroom\courtroom_bip1_female.mdl"
Second file: "J:\Temp\Wesp Patch\Vampire\models\cinematic\santa_monica\courtroom\courtroom_bip1_female.mdl"
Shift: 0

That big red "0" tells it all: there are zero differences between the files in Wesp's patch, and the original files from Bloodlines. None... no changes of any kind whatsoever. The two model files are indeed 100% identical in every conceivable way. Not only have they not been "repaired," but they have not been altered in any ways whatsoever... period.

The plot thickens, eh..?     ::)

No I didn't do any comparisons like that. Though now that I think about it, I still cant figure out why Wesp added his compiled Python files to the UP. Those files are not supposed to be there, they are generated by the game when you enter a new map and they are generated individually for that map, not all at once. So the only thing I can think of, that he is using them for, is as a workaround for the "AI Disable" bug. I feel sorry for the guy who deletes those files after making changes to Python. I'm thinking he is going to open a huge can of worms.

I am surprised that the modders who use the UP haven't made some complaints about it, but then again they may not be changing the Python files, or they aren't deleting the compiled files, thinking that the game is installing the changes they made, when its not.

Another thing I found is there are a lot of .lip files added to the UP, but I'm pretty sure those are a workaround for the ambient dialogue's that weren't completing, that you fixed in a hotfix.

One more thing. In case you dont know, the UP supporters are bragging about the smaller size of the UP compared to the TPG. Saying that the True Patch is bloated. Well I know better as do others who use it. Yes it is bigger, and may appear to be bloated, but it has complete files and in some cases complete folders. I can easily open it up and inspect all of it without issue or special instructions. Good luck trying that with the UP, because of the installer you have to install it and all that is hidden in it. Now I'm not saying that Wesp is hiding something nasty or malicious in there, because as far as I know he is not. I just dont trust third party self installers or the people who use them (I feel that they are trying to hide something).

Well no... actually, the "AI Disabled" message is not a bug. It happens when the existing node graphs do not match the actual map to which they correspond. So the engine stops the AI for a moment and compiles a new set of node graphs for that map. During that automated procedure, the "Node graph out of date -- AI Disabled" message appears. The work-around for it is to include a pre-compiled set of node graphs for each and every map which has been repaired by the patch. And in the True Patch Gold Edition, that is precisely what you will find: an entire set of new node graphs, which accurately correspond to the repaired maps. I believe Wesp does the exact same thing in his own "unofficial patch."

QuoteOne more thing. In case you don't know, the UP supporters are bragging about the smaller size of the UP compared to the TPG. Saying that the True Patch is bloated.

LOL... uh huh. Right.

And back in the days of version 5.04AT, which was less than a quarter of the size of Wesp's "patch," those very same nitwits bragged that because Wesp's "patch" was so much larger than version 5.04AT of the True Patch, then it must be because Wesp fixed a lot more things than we did.

So which is it..? If the larger patch fixes more bugs, then doesn't that mean that the TPG fixes more bugs than Wesp's "patch" does..? You can't have it both ways, PV pee-wees. If your "bigger is better" mantra was true for Wesp's "patch," then it should be true for the TPG as well.

The actual truth of the matter is that the TPG does indeed contain numerous map, engine and audio repairs that Wesp's "patch" lacks. Some of those files can be quite large. The TPG also contains several optional mods, which were bundled into the TPG package as a courtesy for those who might like to try them. Those mods take up a certain amount of room, too... although all of them are optional. They are not a part of the actual patch itself. The actual True Patch Gold Edition itself resides within the sub-folder named "TRUE_PATCH_MAIN."

But as I pointed out in another thread (http://www.tessmage.com/forum/index.php/topic,58003.msg80827.html#msg80827), even if you remove all of the optional mods from the TPG package, it still weighs in at a hefty 100 megabytes larger than Wesp's so-called "unofficial patch" in its compressed form. Uncompressed, the size difference between our work and Wesp's is even greater. And since every single bit of the TPG consists of legitimate bug fixes (check it out for yourselves and see), then the reason for this difference in size should be quite clear: the TPG fixes quite a few legitimate bugs that Wesp did not.

It is as simple as that, because the numbers do not lie. I welcome everyone to completely dissect every tiny bit of the True Patch Gold Edition and then, see if you can find one single bit of our patch that does not consist of legitimate fixes to REAL bugs which existed in the original game. Don't just take my word for it -- tear it apart yourselves, and see.

I pointed out that very fact at those morons in the Steam boards, and they still wanted to pick a fight. Then when they realized they couldn't win, they actually started posting conversations from here as quotes and slandering both you and me. As far as them attacking me, I dont give a shit (I have been insulted by far better people than those nitwits), but I draw the line at attacking someone they know cant defend themselves on those boards. I know I didn't do very good defending anyone, but at least I tried, as did a few others and it doesn't help that most of us (myself included now), aren't going to those forums anymore.

I presume that you are talking about... moi.

Schu, none of those babies would have the guts to confront me directly. They know that my knowledge of this game and its inner workings is light years beyond theirs. For them, it would be like walking into a tiger's cage... armed with a pea shooter. I'm sorry if that sounds conceited, but we all know that it's the truth. But hey... they are always welcome to try. Just sign up for this board and then start a new topic called "I wanna argue with Tessera about Bloodlines patches." I'll be very happy to oblige you.

And more importantly, they know that every single thing that we have been saying over here is the truth. They can't defend against it, and they know it. That's why ultimately, they ALWAYS resort to childish name calling and adolescent smack talk. It's the last refuge of the outmatched and the ignorant.

Several times now, I have challenged those morons to dissect the TPG for themselves and then create their own detailed reports about its contents. But I don't expect any of them to actually go through with it... mainly because they would end up severely embarrassing themselves, and they know it.

I maintain that every single file contained within the TPG represents a very real and very legitimate repair, to things which were actually buggy or broken within the original game.

In stark contrast, go ahead and analyze Wesp's so-called "patch," which is filled from top to bottom with bogus "fixes" that aren't fixes at all, along with well over 100 bits of completely arbitrary changes to the game which were NOT necessary (or even justified). So subtract all of that worthless fluff from Wesp's work... and then see what is left over. And then try to explain how Wesp's crappy little "patch" could possibly contain anywhere near as many LEGITIMATE repairs to Bloodlines as the TPG does.

The only logical answer is: it can't. It is simply not possible. And that's why the morons who slander us and praise Wesp's shitty little "patch" don't have the guts to accept our challenge.

But our challenge still stands. Analyze the TPG for yourselves... if you dare. And then tell us if you find anything that is not a legitimate fix to a very real bug which existed in the original game.

Man, I love this egotistical little Kraut and his horseshit patch notes. Here... let me analyze them for ya's...

"Restored Giovanni spirit"

~ there is no such thing. Period.

"Restored video victim"

~ there is nothing to "restore." She goes into the house... she gets attacked... she dies... the video fades... the end.

"Restored 50 props."

~ there is nothing to restore. So what this really means is that Wesp added a bunch of clutter to the game which did not exist before, nor does it need to.

"Changed condition for forklift sequence and restored Protean icons."

~ I have absolutely no idea what the hell Wesp is talking about here. As usual.

"Added option to send Gimble to Vandal and a museum panel inspection."

~ and why are we sending Gimble to Vandal..? Just for kicks..? This is not a fix, nor is it a "restoration." It's just pointless, arbitrary fluff.

"Restored final two music pieces..."

~ once again, Wesp is referring to unwanted (by Troika) cutting-room garbage as "restorations." These things were cut from the game for a reason. Maybe one day, Wesp will understand that.

"Corrected Romero not mailing and Vandal not giving additional lines."

~ these must refer to something that Wesp broke in one of his previous abortions, because both of those issues have worked perfectly in every version of the True Patch since 5.04AT.

"Fixed chandelier and camera rod textures and drinking glasses clip."

~ there is nothing wrong with those textures. Nothing at all. So what he really has done, if anything, is to alter them in some unnecessary way.

Removed newspaper from downtown in basic and fixed minor map issues.

~ these are not fixes to Bloodlines... these are fixes to things that Wesp broke in a previous version of his "patch."

"Added Packfile Explorer 3.9 to Extras folder, thanks to Dave Gaunt."

~ more worthless fluff. The classic VPK Tools by Turvy, which are bundled in with the TPG, work perfectly for scanning and converting VPK files. Nothing else is needed.

"Fixed Hitman quest problem..."

~ this is actually a legitimate bug (for a change). We talked about it right here on this board, about a year ago.

"...restored lines of Lu Fang and Carson."

~ this, however, is another of Wesp's bogus "restorations." There are no missing lines for Lu Fang. None. So, Wesp must have added some new lines of his own... for kicks.

"Repaired dancer behaviour at Confession...

~ let me translate this one for ya's: Wesp has stolen a repair from the TPG. I had already fixed the dancer behavior in Confession well over a year ago. He is no doubt referring to his failure to move the dance nodes for the NPC's, after moving the player dance spot (to avoid a camera issue in Confession). When I fixed that map, I performed both repairs at the same time. But when Wesp "fixed" it, he did not... he only moved the player -- not the NPC's. Someone no doubt pointed out to him that it works better in the TPG and so, Wesp has probably reverse engineered my Confession repairs and then added something similar to his own work. I'm sure that he did his best to disguise this theft, too. WTG, Wesp... but you're about two years too late with that one.

...and added it for Glaze too."

~ this, on the other hand, is yet another arbitrary mod. Very similar to the sorts of things that I myself added to various places... in my Mega-Mod. But such alterations do not belong in a patch. They belong in a mod. Case closed. And I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn that Wesp has somehow gotten his hands on a copy of the Mega-Mod.

"Restored Blood Hunt music, ballroom shaft of light and Sin Bin sign."

~ once again, I have no idea what Wesp is talking about. I think it is likely that he finally figured out how to add ambient lighting code to the maps and so, as usual, he can not resist the temptation to add arbitrary changes to the game which are not justified in a supposed "patch." In any case, these are not "restorations," they are arbitrary modifications. Wesp is not a native English speaker... so maybe someone should educate him as to what the word "restore" actually means.

As usual, Wesp writes his patch notes in such a way as to impress people. But if any of those people actually knew how the programming code works in this game, then they would also know that Wesp is once again padding out his patch notes with bogus information. Of all of the things mentioned above, only ONE of them refers to a legitimate bug (the Hitman quest dialogue loop). Everything else is completely bogus on Wesp's part. That is a fact, not an opinion.

Wesp's goal is to mislead people and divert their attention from the truth. He has long since stopped giving a damn about right and wrong, just as he has stopped giving a damn about the integrity of Troika's final masterpiece. What Wesp has been doing to this game is not admirable -- it is shameful.

Nor does Wesp care whether or not his constantly changing "patch" undermines and frustrates the efforts of potential Bloodlines modders... which no doubt explains why there are so few high-quality mods available for this game.

The TPG fixes nearly every single legitimate bug in Bloodlines... and without all of that misleading and sabotaging horseshit. If people want anything above and beyond what the TPG offers, then that's what mods are for. The TPG lets you play Troika's game bug-free. If you want something more than Troika's game, then make a mod. And if you start with the TPG as your base, then you can rest assured that your mod will work today, and tomorrow, and ten years from now. We don't add new bugs and unnecessary garbage to Bloodlines... we fixed the existing bugs in the original game, and that's it.

That's what patches are for: to fix a game -- not break it, as Wesp has repeatedly done.

That says allot, as you said, because weps5 has control of the masses, we will never have any true big add-ons, that is the true tragedy of all this, and I agree, as Ive said before, Ive seen big mods like CE, Comp mod, TFN, CQM all not only add new stuff, and TRY to expand, but as they are doing it on a ever changing mod (the UP), as good as there intentions are, it will always be two step back (1. IE fixing errors from previous UP) and step two (2. adding new content from new version of UP) one step forward (then adding there new content after fixing all stuff from past UP and then updating to new UP) This sucks :( 2/3rds of there work is the UP mod.. and not there mod..
Title: Re: The new list: UP: List Of Mods/Changes Added To VTMB
Post by: Tessera on December 12, 2011, 12:09:21 AM
The answer to your dilemma is really quite simple...

The entire VTMB community needs to:

(1) Stop using the UP.
(2) Stop supporting Wesp.
(3) Encourage each other to start producing high-quality mods, using the TPG version of Bloodlines as your base.

Following those three steps will go a long way towards ensuring that Bloodlines will grow and endure for many years to come.

Wesp is only one person. And if the majority of the VTMB community keeps depending upon that one person for nearly all of their new content, then they can pretty much forget about ever seeing this game grow into the huge success that it -could- become, if there were lots of modders working upon it. But as we have pointed out quite clearly, Wesp's over-zealous butchery of Bloodlines has all but stifled the modding community, by imposing a constant state of uncertainty regarding the consistency and the integrity of his so-called "patch."

Now imagine the alternative: everyone gets on the same page with the TPG, which is a rock-solid and extremely consistent patch for Bloodlines. The consistency of the TPG will allow every single aspiring modder out there to produce mods and interact with each other with far more freedom and security, as compared to starting with ANY version of Wesp's work.

The net result would be a virtual explosion of Bloodlines mods... and I am sure that quite a few of those mods would be very high quality indeed. And they would also be fully compatible with one another, thanks to the fact that all of them began by using the same basic version of the game: the TPG version, which is essentially guaranteed to remain basic, rock-solid and consistent, no matter how many hotfixes we release in the future.

The fate of this game is up to its community. They can keep clinging to the misguided status quo over in Wesp's camp... and then watch Bloodlines continue to stagnate. Or, they can switch over to the TPG... and then watch what happens when doing so un-ties the hands of the modding community and sets them free. The choice seems like a no-brainer to me.

I have a lot of detractors out there, so I am adding these last two paragraphs for them: if you think that I personally care either way about this situation, then guess again. None of this crap affects me personally... not even in the slightest. I don't make any money from the TPG; in fact, it COSTS me money to produce and support our patch. Nor does it harm me if there aren't enough mods being made for Bloodlines, because I -AM- A MODDER and I make my own high-quality mods for this game, thank you very much. Nor am I seeking any imaginary status, as my ego has long since been amply rewarded for the work that I have done on OTHER games. Got it..? My ego is doing just fine, thanks. So then, why do I keep harping on this shit..? For whose benefit..?

For YOUR benefit, that's who. If I didn't care about this community, then I would never have made a patch for VTMB in the first place. Believe it or not, there are actually a few of us out there in the world who are NOT selfish.

Shadow, I stopped updating this list because I made my point. I wanted people to see just how much unnecessary and
arbitrary shit wesp put into his so called patch. He has done nothing but, cause conflict and make it almost impossible
for the modding community to create unique mods for Bloodlines. Now dont get me wrong, there have been some good
modders out there who have made some good, or should I say entertaining mods for the game, but most of
those mods have been built around the UP and are now obsolete because of that butchers constant changes.

Also you will notice that he started calling his updates "betas" shortly after the release of this list, so that should tell
everybody something.

Anyway to comment on his new insanity. I will not comment on his plus + part because it is not part of this list.
Corrected Romero not mailing
Not mailing what?

Vandal not giving additional lines.
Vandal again, what lines? Wesp stop messing with the dialogues so much.

Fixed chandelier and camera rod textures and drinking glasses clip.
He has supposed to have fixed this several times now, so again something he broke.

Removed newspaper from downtown in basic.
The newspaper thing again? How many times is he going to fix this same issue, that he created.

fixed minor map issues.
Again with the maps. Which maps, and what area? What was the issue? Repairing his own mistakes and calling it a fix.

Added Packfile Explorer 3.9 to Extras folder, thanks to Dave Gaunt.

Fixed Hitman quest problem.
Again? How many times are you going to fix the same problems? Or are you saying you missed something?

restored lines of Lu Fang and Carson.
Will you please stop adding to the working dialogues, or did you forget to remove some of your + crap again?

Repaired dancer behaviour at Confession and added it for Glaze too.
Just like Tess did over a year ago, and you still don't use spell-check do you?

Restored Blood Hunt music
Why did you remove it, or is this something you found on the disks. Possible + repair.

ballroom shaft of light
?

Sin Bin sign.
I don't remember what he did with the Sin Bin, so this maybe a legit fix, but the restored comment tells me it is
something he broke.

If people would just get the hint and start using the UP as the mod that it is, then there would be far less conflict, and
the modding community wouldn't be tearing their hair out every-time it got changed.

You wouldn't know, because you're a TPG user. And in the TPG, this issue has never been broken.

Romero sends an e-mail to FEMALE characters, but only if the player chose the "give Romero a BJ"
option for his Hollywood cemetery quest. After we get to Act Four, Romero sends us an e-mail which
basically says that it was fun, but an ongoing romance is out of the question. "Bye bye -- stay beautiful."

In Wesp's shitty UP "patch," he decided to take it upon himself to allow MALE player characters to
likewise select a sexual option for that quest... despite the fact that Romero is not gay, nor is there
anything ANYWHERE within the game which even hints that he is gay. But Wesp doesn't care.

So I am assuming that when Wesp made this completely ridiculous change... a change which,
I should point out, is clearly pandering to the numerous gay members of the PlanetVampire
community... he must have slipped up and forgotten to add the necessary code which would
trigger a similar e-mail from Romero to male PC's.

Once again, Wesp has vaguely listed something as a "fix," when in fact it was never broken in
the default game to begin with. It is yet another repair to HIS OWN PATCH... not to Bloodlines.

As I stated in an earlier post, the e-mail from Romero... which is ONLY supposed to go to FEMALE
player characters, has been working perfectly in every version of the True Patch since 5.04AT.

Or.... he has been stealing map repairs from the TPG, hence his being deliberately vague about them.
We have already seen some evidence that Wesp has been stealing code from the TPG in the past and
then doing his best to disguise it within his own shitty mod. His recent alterations to the Confession
map would be one such example.

Ah, I see. I have never used that option, I have always just persuaded a hooker to follow me too him, so I have never seen
that email.

Yeah, I do remember him making that alteration, I just didn't connect the dots. Seeing as all of his users know about that
change, why in the world would he be so cryptic about it, it's not like they don't know it was his fuck up. It would have
taken a short sentence to explain it, or better yet leave it alone.

You may very well be right. I just didn't want to accuse him of theft, because I honestly dont know.

One of the things I have noticed coming from that side of the wall, is that ever since these lists came out, Wesp's patch notes
have gotten much smaller. That is leading me to believe that he doesn't want anybody else doing what I did and confirm
what I found.

Hey all, I have made some changes to the OP to clarify some things about the UP, and to add some changes that, you know who made.

One of which is he removed the cage dancers at Confession from the basic version of his mod.

Second, he added graffiti to the side of Fat Larry's truck.

And apparently he removed an eye mod which made things worse then original. Now the reason I say that is, because in my mod, the eyes are dark in the beginning (the making of a vampire, and the trial), but gos away by the time you start the tutorial, unless you are using Tessera's Mega-Mod (then they are perfect from start to finish). When you see the game using the UP Basic, you see that the eyes have too much white on one side of them, which looks weird and offset through out the game (not just in the beginning). This to me looks like a failed mod, or something he forgot to remove. I would rather see eyes that are too dark in the beginning (that gos away) then too much white through out the game.

That's because the people on Wesp's team are incompetent. The eye textures in VTMB need to be created with several key texture flags... otherwise, the engine suffers from clamping issues and the eye textures will become noticeably distorted. I found this out myself the hard way... five or six years ago, when I first started experimenting with eye textures.

I will be a nice guy (for a moment) here, though... and make the following offer: if any aspiring modders out there are in need of any advice regarding Bloodlines textures... even if they are firmly in Wesp's camp and insist on using his horrible patch... then they may feel free to pick my brain, if they so choose. I have probably done more work with Bloodlines textures (of all types) than anyone else in the modding scene, and I do not have a problem so far as sharing what I have learned with other modders. So long as they are cordial and ask their questions respectfully, then I am more than happy to offer them whatever help I can. I would love to see more high-quality mods being created for this game... and now that I am officially retired from modding, it would go against my principles to keep everything that I know to myself.

So if anyone needs any advice, or if they just want to run their ideas past me and ask what I think, well then... my door is always open.  8)

I have learned a lot just from reading threads/posts on this site, I can only imagine what I could learn by actually asking serious questions. Too bad I am a gluten for punishment, and like to learn on my own  ;) but you folks have been great.

Anyway, back to the topic:
I am thinking from now on when Wesp post's one of his updates on Steam, I should post one of my retorts, like Tessera and I did for ShadowTek. Yes it would be mean, yes it would be obnoxious, but it would get the point across. Especially to those who don't know any better, and they cant ban me for it, as long as I don't get personal or start a flame war.

Hmm, this could be interesting, what a concept...fuck with Wesp and his occultism...Oh what fun.

It isn't mean, nor is it obnoxious. I consider it to fall under the auspice of "equal time."
If people are always hearing only one side of the story, then by default they are
misinformed... and possibly even misled.

If the only thing you do is post actual documented facts, then why would anybody
get angry with you..? Unless they have something to hide, that is...

To the best of my knowledge...

In the vanilla version of Bloodlines, Romero will send ONE e-mail to female players, but only if
the player selected the "have sex with Romero" option during Romero's quest.

He basically says something like "Hey baby, we had some laughs, but I don't think it will work out
between us. Stay beautiful." That's about it.

Nope, the words on the side of Fat Larry's truck is not part of the original game. It is something that Wesp added. If
you stop to look at it, you will notice that it is too bright and seems out of place against an old dull white truck. If you
look at all of the original graffiti in the game you will notice that it looks old and worn. What wesp put on Larry's truck stands
out too much, plus he used Italian words in a mostly english and spanish speaking LA.

Sorry, I don't have any of my original saves from the vanilla game, so I cant get you a screen shot of Larry's truck.

Side note: My mistake, the words on the side of Larry's truck is Italian not Spanish.
It translates to read as: "environmental devastation and urban"  that's it, and devas tazione is misspelled it's all one word,
not two separate words. Hey Wesp next time try it this way:  "devastación del medio ambiente y renovación urbana".
Translation:  "environmental devastation and urban renewal". At least that makes for a good side joke on Larry's truck.

QuoteNever noticed any problems with the eye mod, though.
Are you using his basic or plus version? I know he used to have someones eye mod in his mod, and he may have screwed up
when removing it from basic.

One more thing, I now have publicly posted proof that Wesp is taking apart the TPG, looking for fixes, but we already
suspected that. Check out post #8: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2568503  Busted.

Title: Re: The new list: UP: List Of Mods/Changes Added To VTMB
Post by: Tessera on February 29, 2012, 08:19:29 PM
Wesp has been reverse-engineering the True Patch for the past five years, Schu.

We have noticed multiple examples of repairs which were first introduced within the
True Patch (and/or one of its hotfixes) showing up in Wesp's "UP" shortly thereafter.
Wesp simply juggles the numbers around a bit, in order to mask the theft.

But yes... Wesp has definitely been stealing from us. I can't prove it in a court of law,
but I am quite certain of it, regardless. There have been far too many "coincidences."

Incidentally...

In the past, Wesp has been confronted several times regarding the fact that the TPG
package is significantly larger than any version of his "UP" package. I have explained
to everyone the reason for this: it is because the TPG contains more LEGITIMATE
bug fixes than any version of Wesp's so-called "patch."

Wesp, on the other hand, has danced around this issue... by making all manner of
deceptive excuses. For example, Wesp has claimed that the TPG was compressed
using minimal compression -- hence its larger file size. This is in fact not so. The TPG
package was compressed using the MAXIMUM compression level available using the
popular WinRAR file compression software. And of course, every single file was run
through WinRAR's file verification process, in order to ensure that the contents of
the TPG archive were exact and complete.

Some time later, Wesp tried another ploy. He suggested that the reason for the
large difference between his "patch" and ours was due to the extra mods and
other materials which are bundled into the TPG package. Well Wesp... that is
also a fat load of bullshit on your part, dude. But rather than waste any more
words on Wesp and his idiocy, why don't I just show all of you a nice little
screenshot instead:

The actual True Patch itself is located within a sub-folder of the TPG package
named "TRUE_PATCH_MAIN." What you see in the above screenshot is the
total size of ONLY that folder. ONLY of the actual True Patch itself. No frills,
no extras, none of the optional mods... JUST THE TRUE PATCH ITSELF.

And as you can see, I have not been deceiving anyone about its size. The TPG
is a fully-comprehensive bug-fix-only patch and as such, it contains quite a large
number of LEGITIMATE repairs which Wesp's "patch" clearly lacks.

So as we keep telling everyone: if your goal is to simply patch the actual bugs
in VTMB and then enjoy a bug-free playing experience, then the TPG is without
a doubt your very best choice. The numbers do not lie... although Wesp and his
goons certainly -do- lie and they have been doing so for the past six years.

We have facts and actual numbers. Wesp has lies and deceptive rhetoric.

Just do the math.  ;)

WOW, you added over 90 megs in just 6 hot fixes, and that has taken, what? a year and a half. In that
same amount of time Wesp has released 20 to 24 different versions of the UP. All of which have broken
mods built for it, and you haven't broken a single mod with your hotfixes. Well one actually, but you put
the fix for it in the hotfix, and it was one of your own mods.

Anyway, When "you know who" releases his finished 8.0 basic version, I will test it out to see how much
he didn't fix or how many mods he left/added. He is claiming it is going to be just as named "Basic", we
shall see.

Think maybe he is getting tired of the complaints about too much shit in what is supposed to be a patch?

I want to re-iterate a few things, for anyone who still does not fully understand
the terminology being used throughout this debate.

So to that end, let me post my own...

Tessera's Glossary Of Terms

Patch; official

A collection of repairs and other features, released some time after the game in question was originally released. These patches are written by the professionals who were involved in the production of the original game, hence it is entirely within their discretion as to what will (or will not) be included within their patch package. If they wish to add, or alter, or delete any of the original game's content, then they are entirely within their rights as the original developers to do so.

Patch; third-party

A collection of repairs which are typically produced by the amateur fans of the game in question. Since none of the people involved in the production of a third-party patch were in any way, shape or form associated with the original team of professional developers, it is therefore not within the prerogative of a third-party patch team to introduce any large, sweeping and arbitrary changes to the game in question. A proper third-party patch should simply contain legitimate repairs to the game which were not fixed, for whatever reason, by the original developers of said game. To do anything beyond that would be to invalidate the use of the term "patch" and instead, would constitute a third-party "mod" (see below). As for what constitutes a legitimate repair, please see the entry for "Bug; legitimate" further below.

Game Modification (or "Mod")

A game mod is something which has been created by talented (we hope) fans of the game in question. It is not so much concerned with repairs, as it is with making various arbitrary changes to the game that the modders in question consider to be desirable. Game play changes, extra fan-made content, model and texture (cosmetic) changes, and various other subjective changes to the game would be examples of a typical "mod." Since mods are by default entirely subjective in nature, then just about anything is permissible within a mod. It is an optional fan-made creation... thus it is left up to each individual player as to whether or not they are interested in installing it. Fan-made mods should never be REQUIRED... they should always be OPTIONAL. Wanting something should never be misconstrued in anyone's mind as being the same as needing something. Just because you might desire something to be different, that doesn't mean that everyone else will desire the same changes. Thus, a fan-made mod should never be imposed upon anyone. A mod is entirely the product of personal bias and individual taste and as such, it should always be a matter of choice for the end user.

Bug; legitimate

A "bug" refers to some segment of computer code which is clearly broken and dysfunctional. Therefore, what does or does not constitute a legitimate bug should never be subjective. Either it is truly broken and in need of repair -- or it is not. The only sure method for determining what is or is not a legitimate bug is really quite simple: if a clearly intended feature of the original software is not functioning properly, and if that lack of proper function is due to a poorly constructed segment of computer code, and if that segment of computer code can be rewritten in such a way as to allow the intended feature to function properly, then that segment of computer code is indeed a legitimate bug and as such, it will require a patch in order to repair it.

Bug; imaginary

An "imaginary bug" refers to any segment of a functioning piece of software which has, for whatever reason, been incorrectly perceived by the end user as being somehow defective. In almost every case, what the end user reports as a "bug" is, in actuality, simply some feature of the software in question that the user is personally having trouble with. As for why they are having trouble with it, the reasons can be many and varied. In the realm of computer games, it is usually due to the fact that the user in question is simply not a very good player. Or, the end user may have improperly installed the original software and predictably, they are now having problems with it. But rather than blame him or herself for the difficulty that they are experiencing, they instead try to massage their own egos by reporting an imaginary bug in the software. For example: "I've been trying to kill so-and-so for three hours and I can't get my gun to work right. It must be bugged." And of course, in almost all cases of this nature, the answer turns out to be that the player was not using the software correctly... hence it was not functioning in the manner intended. Obviously, this is not a bug, then. It is a simple case of user error (or a lack of skill), being blamed upon imaginary bugs which do not, in actuality, exist.

Well, like I keep saying: Wesp isn't important anymore. There was a time when Wesp had a virtual monopoly on VTMB bug fixes, but that time came to an end five or six years ago.

And today, the TPG has surpassed anything that Wesp has ever done, in terms of the sheer number of legitimate bug fixes, stability and reliability, streamlined coding, a minimalist approach to the number of revisions and hotfixes, and so forth and so on.

It's a done deal. Need a solid fan-made patch for VTMB..? Then we got it right here -- the best VTMB patch on the web.  8)

Fixed Tseng, guard, stripper, raver and more models, thanks MooCHa.

Now I'm not sure, but I think Tess deleted the thread with these vary issues posted in it, at least I couldn't find it.
Do the highlighted and under lined, lines look familiar to anyone else?

Either that kid didn't do a proper clean install, or he wanted Tess to fix Wesp's fuck-ups.

You mean the Argentinian kid posing as "Lydia..?" The weird little teenager that I banned last week..?

Yes, that was my suspicion also, when I saw him posting several alleged "bugs" that have never, ever existed in the True Patch.

I think it is fair to conclude that he was actually using Wesp's latest "patch," which as we can see from your quote, contained yet another set of bugs that Wesp himself created. Wesp seems to be doing a wonderful job of adding more bugs to VTMB than he actually fixes these days. And never once in his patch notes does he mention that his latest "repairs" are actually fixes to things that he himself broke in one of his previous releases. But what else is new..? That's been the ongoing story with Wesp for the past five years.

So yeah... the little idiot was pretending to be a True Patch user, when in reality, he was hoping that I would come up with some kind of fix for Wesp's own broken garbage.

What a world. Anyway, neither of those bugs have ever existed for True Patch users. We don't break things (like Wesp does), we only fix them.  ::)

Yup thats the one. That screen shot of Jack at the beginning of the tutorial is what gave him away. That comment isn't even in the vanilla game.

Exactly... and that's how I nailed the little bastard.

And ya know, it's pretty sad when the users of Wesp's crappy "patch" are showing up HERE looking for bug fixes.
It just shows you how disconnected Wesp has become. They can't get any satisfaction from Wesp... so they show
up here instead, hoping to put one over on me. But I think that says a lot more about Wesp than it does about them,
when you think about it. Why people keep using his horrible "patch" is beyond my understanding.
Title: Re: The new list: UP: List Of Mods/Changes Added To VTMB
Post by: Schu on April 24, 2012, 10:55:40 PM
Yes it is sad, and I can see why it is pissing you off, but on the other hand, people are starting to see that Wesp does not have
their best interests at heart (at least as far as a proper running game is concerned). Some of the newer members of PV are
starting to see past the apparent arrogance and massive ego that the hard core PV crowd paint you out to have. So what happens
is they come here "and lie" in the hopes of getting a fix for their patch of choice, to only find out that you cant or wont, fix it, and
you cant tell them how to fix it, because it's not an issue with the TPG or Mega-Mod.

So what can they do? Change patches to test things out, then load your Mega-Mod and enjoy the eye candy, that they cant see
using the UP. The next thing you know, the more industrious ones, are going to start making mods using the TPG, using the
instructions that are found on this site. Soon enough, there will be mods that will replicate the things that Wesp has done....
only better, because people will be able to pick and choose the mods they want.

Yeah, I know, it'll probably never happen, but one can hope.

On Topic: I'm going to be doing a little research on the UP v8.0 to see if the basic version is actually what Wesp says it is...
"basic", which I am doubting. I really don't like the idea of using a third-party self installer, that has been put together by a
spin-master who wont even give you a straight answer too a straight question. Don't believe me? Just check out the Steam
boards and see for yourself. I'm getting the feeling I'm being stalked. Every-time I post, Wesp is right there posting after me to
refute my post, and he doesn't even quote me properly, he picks and chooses what he wants, then takes what I posted out
of context to suit his own means. That is what I hate about teachers, they think they can treat everyone they have to deal
with, like one of the kids they are intrusted to teach, and not as their equal.

Plus he only posts on the Bloodlines boards, and nowhere else.
Title: Re: The new list: UP: List Of Mods/Changes Added To VTMB

Schu, just laugh at him. He isn't worth any more than that. He's just a powerless little punk, who has
about as much creativity as an earthworm. And the same goes for Wesp, his butt buddy.  ::)

You don't see True Patch users behaving like that and it's for a very good reason: unlike Wesp's crowd,
none of us are desperately trying to uphold a big, fat lie. TPG users also tend to be more mature and
sophisticated than Wesp's crowd. Anyone taking the time to read this board would have figured that
out about us within 15 minutes, tops.

Think about it for a minute, Schu. Think about all of the desperate, nasty and underhanded behavior that
has come out of Wesp and his goons during the past five years. Have you noticed an underlying pattern
in any of that crappola..? Because I have...

They go out of their way to prevent other Bloodlines players from even KNOWING about the True Patch.

Have you noticed that trend..? By burying pro-TPG posts on various boards... by trying to get pro-TPG
users banned from various boards... by sabotaging the Wikipedia entries for the True Patch... by doing
everything that they can do to spread false rumors and "anti-Tessera" propaganda... by shouting down
TPG users and treating them in an extremely rude and childish manner...

See what I mean..?

So now we're left with the obvious question: what are they so afraid of..? So we have a competing
patch for VTMB. So what..? Why does the TPG make them feel so threatened and insecure..?

I'm not playing dime store psychologist here. This is pretty basic stuff, so far as human behavior is concerned.
When a small-but-vocal clique goes out of their way to drown out the competition, it is almost always for the
same reason... regardless of the issue. It's because they feel threatened by the competition and what's more,
they feel as if they may not be able to compete with the competition on a fair playing field.

When you analyze it that way, we could almost go so far as to say that the more they attack the True Patch,
the more they are actually ENDORSING IT.

Lol, I love the way you look at it dude. You don't give a shit, you know what you and Acrimonious did, you guys know that
you made a good reliable patch that's not going to change after years, let alone every month. I mean come-on there was 3 to 4
years between the "504at" and the "TPG". That should tell people something, but they don't look at what is right in front of
them, and that aggravates the hell out of people like me.

In my opinion, Wesp does not deserve the accolades he has been getting. I want to tear into him so fucking bad, but there is
only 2 places I can do that, and 1 of them I will get banned (Steam). I have already been banned at PV for ripping into Wesp
and I don't want to get banned at Steam, because I can still be a dissenting voice, against the UP, but that is getting harder
every-time Wesp starts typing. Like I said, I feel like I'm being stalked by Wesp, and he is doing it to piss-me-off so I will
tear into him and get banned from the Steam boards. I ain't going to give him the satisfaction.

Anyway, enough of my ranting. I have the latest of the UP (YUK), and I will try and give an unbiased opinion. Just because I
don't like Wesp and his way of doing things, doesn't mean I cant keep an open mind about his work. I'll post what I think later
in another post, and add to the OP when I'm done.

In the past five years, how many legitimate complaints has Wesp received about his various releases..?

I don't know the exact answer to that question, but they number into the thousands.

And in the past five years, how many legitimate complaints have I received regarding the True Patch..?

That's easy... just search this board. You won't find any at all. Or at best, you might find three or four.
And on those few occasions when we did indeed receive a legitimate complaint, I got right on it and a
hotfix was released within a week. Most usually within a few days.

because he is trying to compete with the True Patch.

Agreed.

Kyon, you have to remember that Wesp isn't about to remove everything he has put into his basic version. Wesp himself made
the mistake of informing me and the general public, that the reason he wont separate the basic and plus versions of the UP, is
because of dependency's he wrote in Python to keep the maps (among other things) working as he intended. Which in my
opinion is broken, and a bad idea.

Think about it for a minute, the UP basic is reliant upon the mods that he put into the game to function. That to me makes no
sense, the patch should fix bugs and not have to rely on anything other than itself to work as intended. The mods on the other
hand, should have to rely on the patch to function, not the other way around. That is why I like the True Patch, it needs nothing
but the game to function, and mods made using it do not require it in order to work, unless certain fixes in the TP are required for
the mod work.

Also, that comment has me slightly concerned. I am not doing this to help the UP, I am doing it for information so people can
have an informed opinion and be able to form their own without bias. Unfortunately those who could refute it, or give a
decent rebuttal don't want to come here, they just take it to PV or cry on Steam and that is not where the thread is.
Title: Re: The new list: UP: List Of Mods/Changes Added To VTMB
Post by: Tessera on April 26, 2012, 03:43:16 PM
I agree completely. Wesp has been doing things backwards for years. You don't set things up so that the "basic" version requires the "complicated" version in order to function... you should always do it the other way around. The simpler version should always come first. And then, if you want to add something onto it later, then that is when you should be installing the more complicated version. That is how we establish a baseline: with the most basic version available. And then everything else should be built on top of that. This is how the True Patch works and in my opinion, it is how EVERY legitimate patch should work.

I have never understood why Wesp does things the way he does. I think it's just another example of how he keeps painting himself into a corner.

For now, I just find it laughable (and also very predictable) that Wesp is suddenly announcing his "most stripped down version yet," or however he is wording it. It doesn't take a mind reader to figure out why he is even doing such a thing in the first place. It's because of this thread. No other reason. People have been reading this thread, whether they use our patch or not. And it's been hitting home with a lot of Bloodlines players. I have no doubt that they have been expressing their concerns and their resentments to Wesp, after reading the numerous revelations within this thread regarding his unwarranted meddling with the game. So is it any wonder that Wesp is starting to cave in under the pressure..?

Folks... if you want a basic patch for Bloodlines, then you don't need to monkey around with Wesp's nonsense. Nor do you need to beg, plead, cajole and badger Wesp to make sweeping revisions to his hopelessly broken "patch.' You just need to install the TPG, from right here on tessmage.com. Everything that you are looking for is right there waiting for you, including numerous and LEGITIMATE repairs that every single version of Wesp's "patch" lacks.

So don't waste your time with Wesp. Just install the True Patch and you'll be all set. And if you want any mods after that... then come talk to us. I'm sure we can put something together for you... if it isn't too ridiculous, of course.

Wesp breaks things in every single iteration of the UP that he has ever produced. So he has to go back and fix what he already broke. Then he claims that he has "fixed" thousands of bugs over the UP series...most of which he made himself. :P

The True Patch series only fixed bugs that existed IN THE ORIGINAL GAME. It has not added any NEW bugs to the game that have then needed to be fixed. That's the difference between the TPG patch and the UP mod. Accept no substitutes. ;)

Horse. Shit.

There are at least two dozen fixes within the TPG that Wesp has never fixed and probably -will never- fix.

Although I have no doubt that he's been stealing some of those fixes from the TPG. We've already seen some evidence of that.

Wesp has been lying about his work for years, Kyon. This thread has already proven that fact, beyond all doubt.

Use whatever patch you want to. But don't hand me any garbage about "more fixes." The only thing Wesp fixes these days are the things that he broke himself.

How many bugs do you think existed in this game, anyway..? Enough to require a new patch every three weeks for six years..?

Don't be ridiculous. Wesp is a liar. Case closed.

Man am I glad I read this. I've been debating which patch to install, and Wesp only has the notes for the 3 most recent ones up on his site. I'm glad I got to see a full list of (most) every change, and most of them do seem really, really, unnecessary. And more over, they're all really vague. Half of them have no context, and I'm sure as hell not going to install mystery changes to my game. So I just wanted to say thank you for making such a thorough list.

Remember this, dCroissant, once you install wesp's crap, it will not work with TGP & mods. You need to uninstall everything including the registery, and reinstall a fresh VTM:B and use the TPG and play it the way the it's supposed to played.
Title: Re: The new list: UP: List Of Mods/Changes Added To VTMB

dCroissant, your welcome, and I'm glad it was of help. Although, seeing as you only have 5 posts and the last one was a
couple of days ago, your only here for the Mega-Mod.

I am actually here just to give an up-date, so here it is. I am not going to finish the list with Wesp's latest insanity (Up v8.0),
because the only place to get any of the older info on the UP is in this and 2 other threads here at tessmage, which makes it
very hard for me to send others to sites with the same info for proof that the patch-notes are his, and not fabricated. Also I
have other projects that I am working on, and this list is low on the priority list.

Wesp has gotten very paranoid and confrontational since the release of these lists. He has even gone so far as sending me
PM's on the Steam boards trying to convince me that I am wrong, yet Wesp and is cronies wont come here and voice their
opinions in public (seeing as this thread was in a public sub-forum of tessmage). They just want me to admit I was in the wrong
on the Steam boards, where they have a majority, or too continue to fight with them and get banned.

I whole heart-idly agree with Tessera, that these lists are one of the main reasons why Wesp is changing the Basic version of
the UP. He wants his accolades and the followers that come with them, and he has been losing that ever since the introduction
of the True Patch, and now these lists. People have been questioning whether his changes to the game are really necessary,
and with all of the new players being introduced to the game because of Steam and Gamefly sales, he has to do something in
order to keep people stroking his e peen by downloading the UP. Even if it means circumventing the truth.

Wesp has lied before and will again, but he is in the public spotlight and his lies will one day come back and bite him in the
ass, just as these lists have proven. I just wish one of the former members of Troika would shut Wesp up, then shot him down
by posting somewhere (anywhere), that what he calls restorations were never meant to be in the finished game, or was
removed for a good reason.

One more thing: If you do a Google search on the TPG vs UP or (the UP vs TPG) it will be third on the list, and all of the others
have nothing to do with the True Patch or the UP.
Title: Re: The new list: UP: List Of Mods/Changes Added To VTMB
Post by: Tessera on June 25, 2012, 01:47:21 AM
Schu,

The Steam boards really are unimportant. Only a tiny fraction of VTMB players pay any attention to those forums.

During the past year, downloads of the True Patch Gold Edition have practically skyrocketed. I attribute this rather dramatic increase in popularity to four significant factors:

(1) This thread, which has made it abundantly clear that Wesp has done far more to harm Bloodlines (and its community) than to help it.

(2) An emerging perception on the part of VTMB players that Wesp is, in fact, a very deceptive and dishonest individual. Not to mention being a glory seeker.

(3) The public release of the VTMB Mega-Mod, which requires the True Patch version of Bloodlines in order to function.

(4) Last but certainly not least, the simple fact that the True Patch fixes more bugs than the UP, without doing anything to alter, undermine, or otherwise harm VTMB in any ways whatsoever.

So when you think about it, Wesp and his small-but-vocal cadre of misguided adolescent goons are no longer important. VTMB players... most especially adult VTMB players... are not as stupid as Wesp believes them to be. With a little help from our side, a growing number of VTMB players have begun to realize that their very best option is to avoid Wesp and his poorly conceived "patch," and install the much safer and more reliable True Patch instead.

I want to thank you again for the excellent work that you did in putting this thread together. It will remain on this board and in public view permanently.  8)

Actually, this topic was the main reason for me to register and say thanks for the most detailed list of changes in game... it's bad that my first playthrough few years ago happened to be mixed with one of those modifications (ver. 6.8 irc), so i guess i ruined my first impression of game (even considering the fact i played with "Basic" version).

Worst thing, i've been one of those crazy guys, who wanted to adapt (actually, make a new one, cuz old one happened to be a bullshit, which this game didn't deserved) an old rus translation of the game (for ver. 1.2, with little neccesary additions from earlier editions of Wesp's mod) for newer editions  :-X I'm glad my work wasn't completed, because of lack of time, feeling, that i'm actually just losing my time (yeah yeah... i felt that i'm doing a bad thing, even if it was a good translation practice for me) etc...

But as i've already mentioned, i haven't been alone in my beginnings, so it's "russified" edition (with it's own modifications and texts from old translation....) now exist. I guess that's the answer, what people need... most of my compatriots knows about modded nature of Wesp's changes, but... you know what i mean (:

So, that's the point, thanks for another chance to compare the things and get an answers.

Everybody, stay away from the Packfile Explorer, it was actually made for another Source Engine game (Left 4 Dead). When
I loaded it up to check out what it was about, and how it worked, it corrupted, then took over a bunch of files for HL2,
L4D, and Bloodlines. So stay far away from it, because it took me a lot of work to get it out of all of my Bloodlines folders.

Now I admit that it was my own stupidity and curiosity that caused this, but an application should not search-out all files that
are associated with a particular engine, then just take them over. So I just thought I would give everyone a heads-up because
there are some compatibility issues that may pop-up.

Metzwing, you might try and finish your translation of the subtitles using the TPG, I think that there are quite a few players
who would appreciate it, as long as it was done properly, and in context. I admit it would be a lot of work, but if you do it in
your spare time and you have a good understanding of both languages, it could be quite popular, especially in Eastern Europe.

To Schu and everyone else...

The only PAK file utility that is approved for use with VTMB is Turvy's VPK Tools.

Turvy's VPK Tools are included within the True Patch Gold Edition, in the "Utility" folder.

Never, ever use anything else.   :police:

Very true, but I wasn't trying to use it for Bloodlines. I was tinkering around with Left 4 Dead, when I realized that the Packfile Explorer had contaminated Bloodlines and Half Life 2. I also have a copy of the latest Source Engine and Valves SledgeHammer on my computer, and they don't interfere with anything. They don't even search out the Source Engine files that are installed, you have to load the files manually, just like with Blender, any texture editing tool, or text editor.

Like I said, my own stupidity, curiosity and I guess misplaced trust in Valve, taught me a lesson I didn't need to learn.  :P

add more junk mods to the (cough, cough) patch).

What I find to be funny is that people are thanking him for his work, then reporting bugs in the next post, or reporting a bug

Wesp has spent the past six years playing to his fans. That's what motivates him.

And in his zeal to continue with that silly ego trip, Wesp has successively damaged
the game with each new iteration of his poorly conceived "patch."

He won't stop until he runs out of gushing acolytes.

What I find to be funny is that people are thanking him for his work, then reporting bugs in the next post, or reporting a bug
then thanking him for it  :P
We can't blame them: Wesp takes advantage of the people's ignorance.

New Bloodlines players, unaware of the TGP existence, think that Wesp's crap is the solution for the vaunted Bloodlines bugs, not knowing that really they are being downloaded a shit that will only affect negatively his gaming experience.

Wesp deceives them and makes them believe that the bugs they are suffering are for Troika fault and not he, and in their ignorance, they ask a new version of the UP, hoping to solve their problems.
This is something that I have experienced by myself. In Steam, this is especially common.

I think it's something aberrant. I have never seen such destruction of the heritage and prestige of a video game fueled by the lie.

Have you ever seen the movie "Jurassic Park..?"

Jeff Goldblum's character had a great line in that movie:

"Your scientists were so busy thinking about whether they could do something,
that they never stopped to think about whether they should."

Or... have you ever seen the movie "Star Trek III: The Search For Spock..?"

Likewise, Mr. Scott ("Scotty") had a great line in that movie:

"The more they over-think the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain."

Hopefully, everyone can see what I'm driving at with these movie quotes.

If not, then just think about it for a minute. And perhaps tell Wesp to think about it, too.  ;)

Anyway, the TPG fixes more legitimate bugs than any version of Wesp's "UP" crap does.
And it does all of that without screwing up the original game in any ways whatsoever.

Seems like an easy choice to me. But what the hell do I know...  :P

Sorry folks, I did say I wasn't going to do anymore, but when I saw this, I just couldn't resist poking Wesp with a stick...Again.

Unofficial Patch, v8.1 26.06.2012
Basic only shown.
----

Improved cameras of Nines' intro, roof exit and epilogue cutscenes.      (Arbitrary)
Why? What was wrong with them?

Fixed claws usage in gallery, Hallowbrook Hotel and Grout's mansion.      (Wesp Broke)
This has been broken for awhile now, most likely because of the first person melee mod.

Corrected Yukie and Pisha dialogue issues                  (Wesp Broke)
Again? How many times is he going to try and fix the so-called "restored" broken dialogues, that he
insists on putting in the game.

restored Nines' line.                           (Mod)(Broken Content)
I'm taking bets on how long it's going to take him to get around to fixing this one.
He'll never learn.

Restored Venture Tower bodies after Sabbat attack, thanks to Malkav.      (Restoration)(Wesp Broke)
Returned too its original state? Maybe?

Removed illogical first SM quest info                  (Mod)(Possible Fix)
I don't remember any illogical quest info in Santa Monica. May be a left over from some of his
so-called restorations.

fixed minor text details.                        (Wesp Broke)(Need Details)
Does anyone know how many times he has said this very thing? I lost count.

Fixed impossible warrens start location                  (Wesp Broke)
Hopefully he got it right this time

Fixed teleporting at junkyard.                     (Wesp Broke)

Added cfg and scripts for modding, thanks to Dheu and EntenSchreck.      (Bad Idea)(Mod)
Hey Wesp...let the modders do their own work, then let them ask if they need help.

Restored three more histories for each clan                  (Mod)
Oh...I know where this is going to go...how about you Cylnar?

Restored minor level details.                        (Mod)

Something I just noticed:
Wesp has integrated the res-patcher into his .exe               (Mod)
_________________________________________________________________________

This line "Added cfg and scripts for modding" has me concerned. There are already the config.cfg and autoexec.cfg,
now he is adding new ones...why? It is very easy to create a new .cfg folder if it is needed for a mod, which isn't necessary.
Yes...Tessera gave us the info for a user.cfg (which is cool by the way), but that isn't what Wesp put in the UP.

I am a total amateur when it comes to modding Bloodlines. In my Oni mod...I created my own script in vdata, I created my
own dialogues, I even did my own Python script, among many others, and it works just fine. Some of the folks over at PV are
pretty good with script, and possibly with Python...so why would Wesp create scripts for modding?

I believe that the UP is spiraling out of control, and going down-hill fast. There are a lot of people having issues with it right
now, at least from what I have been reading. I mean come on...Wesp is handing out cheats, to get past something he broke, so
that he doesn't have to fix it right-away. That is not how a game is supposed to be played.

[This is a retraction]: I now know why Wesp is using the compiled Python folders in his mod. I found out awhile ago that
certain issues can not be resolved without doing so (for an amateur). My Oni mod has some Python compiled files in it, to
help me resolve some issues, I couldn't figure out. If I had a better understanding of Python, or a Python Guru (like
Acrimonious) writing the script, I would not have had to do so, but that is no excuse for Wesp...he is supposed to know what
he is doing with Python. Or is it that, someone else is writing his Python script?

LOL...yep. I pretty much abandoned (at least for the time being) a histories mod I had planned, due to the fact that Bloodlines chokes if you have too many histories, and won't display them. Schu later started work on a similar mod; we merged our projects, found out the histories issue, and Schu's work eventually morphed into his Oni mod. So yeah...Wesp is toddling down the road to breaking Bloodlines yet again. At least histories are not a critical issue, I guess. :P

Who cares..?

Seriously... who cares about those people..? Why should we care..?

We're playing the real game, using a 100% tested and reliable TRUE patch, which does absolutely nothing to mess up the original Troika masterpiece. And it fixes more legitimate bugs than any version of Wesp's garbage.

As for Wesp and his legion of (mostly) teenaged groupies, they're playing a bastardized piece of shit... which keeps getting increasingly screwed up with each new iteration of Wesp's work.

In short: we're playing an excellent and bug-free RPG. One of the best games in the world. With the TPG installed, Bloodlines is stable, reliable and almost 100% bug-free on ALL versions of Windows.

And as for them... they're playing with a bunch of broken dolls from Wesp's toy box. For roughly the past four years, about 80% of the "repairs" in Wesp's mis-labeled "patch" have been fixes to things that Wesp himself broke. And as for his so-called "restorations," nearly all of that crap was deliberately cut from the game by Troika BECAUSE IT DID NOT FIT IN SMOOTHLY WITH THE REST OF THE GAME. And as for the rest of Wesp's garbage, it's nothing but a bunch of amateurish and arbitrary mods, created by the talent-less bozos who hang around the PlanetVampire site. Those are the facts, as we have adequately proven time and time again around here.

So I ask again: who cares about them..? Who cares about what they say and what they think..? The last time I checked, the opinions of clueless, unsophisticated babies were not important in this world.

Know what I mean..?   ;)

Then stop caring. No, really. It's as simple as that.  8)

Every single day, more and more people turn to the True Patch. Why..? Because they're just as fed up as you are with Wesp, his lies, his ineptitude, his sabotage, the thuggish behavior of his acolytes, and all of the rest of his childish garbage. Not to mention that overall, his "patch" is a wretched piece of hopelessly broken and overblown dog shit. On the whole, Wesp has managed to do far more to hurt the VTMB community than to help it. That's a fact.

The mature players are flocking to the TPG in droves. As for the rest of the babies out there, who would rather belong to a clique than actually have a high-quality gaming experience..? Fuck 'em. They're not worth our time. I did not create the True Patch for those people. I created it for sophisticated grown-ups.

Like I said in my previous post: (http://www.tessmage.com/forum/index.php/topic,57843.msg90105.html#msg90105) the opinions of unsophisticated babies are not important in this world... and they never will be important, either. No matter how loudly they carry on and no matter how many lies they propagate.

So just forget about those clowns, Kurtis... because they will never, ever be up to your and my level in life. Just laugh at them, and then walk away.  ;)

Look at the numbers, of each and every patch, and he STILL has not fixed it. Restored, there was a reason why the creators left it out. So don't mess with it. Added, well, Wesp and his little space cadets, asked him to add new weapons, and so on. We always fought with him and he always game out on top, until now, the community is beginning to look every carefully about the UP. Maybe that is why this here forum has an increase of new members, they are seeing the, as we say "proof of the pudding". Either that or Wesp has mouthed out to a corner.

Look, I agree with all that and I always come here to express it, but not everyone is as sharp as us, and if Wesp told that these bugs are fault of Troika and not of him, and his "restorations" were to be applied by Troika, and his "added" improve the gameplay... Why would the amateur player to disbelieve him? For me, this is the real problem. Not everyone can or want realize that Wesp lies.
QuoteSo don't mess with it.
And when I did? I've said many times that the game has nothing to "restore", there isn't any "secret game" that Wesp want convince to everyone.

I feel the same fucking thing. Now the UP is most popular modification for VTMB in my country (with clan addons, companion mods, etc), and many people just don't care (and i can't say many of them are kiddies or somebody like that) about differences between words "mod" and "patch", and what means "restoration"...

But i guess I'm making a progress, trying to at least give people a chance to compare the things. After all I'm one of the core moderators in one of the most promising Russian RPG community (: it's my personal duty now to use such a role well.

Also bad thing, as i mentioned before, there is now a russified edition of Wesp's creation, and many people seems to enjoy this... I guess i need to find a time to do as Schu recommended - complete my own translation, but for Gold Patch, not UP.

Or this will be my another fucking fault, if the game will not get a proper revival in our communities. I just need a time...

The more numbers we take away, the more power we take away form them. So Metz, take your time, do it right, and you will be applauded, for giving them what they want/need.

On another note:
Sorry, I was board earlier, then I saw this posted on the Steam boards, so I thought I would have a little fun.
Yeah I know, I'm a sarcastic bastard, but who cares? The PV crowd, or Wesp aren't coming here to refute it. Besides, 8.1 is
still in beta and now 3 weeks later, here comes UP 8.2 beta.

I honestly don't think that Wesp knows how beta testing is supposed to be done. The next thing you know he'll start calling
them release candidates, but never release a finished product.

UP v8.2 30.07.2012
Basic...Plus included for GP, and the giggle:
----
Plus:
+Restored first person Thaumaturgy animation, thanks to EntenSchreck.
More of the fist person mods added by you know who.
+Placed a GLOCK pistol in Fu Syndicate
Easy mode for plus users.
+Increased new idle rates.
Introduced in 8.1, still don't get why.
+Restored Presence dialogue tutorial popup
Why did you remove it? Or are you using something that was a left-over on the disks.
+Restored missing junkyard dogs.
Oh goodie, now you get to fight puppy's as well as the crazy Gangrel.
+Made NPCs act longer distance to Nosferatu, thanks to EntenSchreck.
???? huh? What? Criptic, Wesp is thy name. Or should I say confusing?
+Corrected Danielle disappearing from Asylum
I think he added her as a continuous follow you around blood doll.
+Added oak animation.
???? oaks move?
+Restored option to stealth kill Johnny
You have got to be kidding me right? Easy mode.
+Restored get gallery bonus XP.
More easy mode for plus users.
+Fixed beachhouse cash bug by using cigarbox
You just had to break that too, didn't you.
+Fixed a loop with the bum.
Which bum? What loop?
+Restored leaf and smoke to Grout's mansion
???? okay?
+Restored fog to warrens lake.
Why did you remove it, to begin with?
+Extended first warrens spiderchick cutscene, thanks to EntenSchreck.
Now you have to wait even longer to get around her/kill her.
+Added option to sell severed arms to Pisha
Again, easy mode for plus users. I don't think he knows canon very well.
+Added tutorial armor info.
Huh? Armor is self explanatory, or just read the manual.

Basic:
Corrected some new histories bugs
Their all bugged. You should have fixed them before introducing them. You don't test anything yourself, do you?
Added handle to Venture Tower.
????
Fixed an elevator icon at Venture Tower
How many did you add, and why? You only need the one.
Corrected two map icons.
Do I really have to say it?
Restored several dialogue gestures of Venus
Oh boy, more broken content, or something he removed.
Restored a big line for Knox.
Oh my god...he is obnoxious enough, why add to the misery?
Fixed a few gender related bad dialogue sound files, thanks to UDM.
WHAT!! Where?
Added fixed lockpick and physcannon item files to free view weapons.
???? You're kidding right?
Restored Ocean House moon
Removed in a previous iteration. One of the coolest bits of art in the game, and he removed it.
Fixed floating rails issues downtown.
I have no idea what he is talking about. Details Wesp details.

Wesp is bragging about 10k downloads in 3 weeks of "his 8.1 beta client". I love the idea of telling you this Wesp. People
are expecting a solid and stable, finished product...not a buggy, broken, beta. Right now you have nothing but 10,000 beta
testers, and the Steam boards are a testament to that.

This is the last one, I'm done with it, and I know I have proved my point. Comments are still welcome,

Many thanks, Schu. You have done an excellent job.

My comments should be pretty obvious, to anyone who has followed this bizarre state of affairs. Please take a minute or two to read what I have to say, because I feel that it will help to illuminate much of what is behind all of this drama and conflict.

Wesp is spurred onwards by a (primarily) adolescent community of Bloodlines fans. What those people want, more than anything else, is a sequel to this wonderful RPG. But they can't have a sequel, because the studio who developed the original game no longer exists. So in their frustration, they have been begging and cajoling Wesp for the past six or seven years... in the vain hope that he will somehow, along with the assistance of several ambitious but untalented modders, produce more and more content for their favorite game.

In short, they're slowly trying to convert Bloodlines -- the original masterpiece -- into some kind of disjointed and sloppily produced sequel. They can't have the real thing, because Troika no longer exists. So, they're gradually changing more and more aspects of the original game... and in the process, the original Troika version of Bloodlines has essentially been buried alive, under a ton of nearly worthless garbage. Yes, it's all garbage... the vast majority of which was either produced or inspired by a misguided community of incompetent youngsters.

I can sympathize with their desire to have "more Bloodlines." We all wish that things had gone better for Troika, so that they could have stayed in business and created an expansion pack and/or a sequel to VTMB. But that's not the way history played itself out... and so, I have some advice for everyone in Wesp's camp:

Just give it up. You are ruining this game. Your hearts are in the right place, but your actions have done far more to harm this game and its community than to help it. I know most of you will not agree with that assertion... but I feel that it is the absolute truth, regardless. One can see the proof of that assertion all around us, on every single forum board that deals with VTMB.

On our side (the True Patch users), we continue to respect the integrity of Troika's final masterpiece... by not undermining or destroying any of its original "flavor" with a bunch of arbitrary and unnecessary content. Such changes are within the purview of MODDERS ONLY... and should never be inserted into a supposed "patch." To do otherwise means forcing each and every single user of Wesp's "patch" to accept a ton of unnecessary changes to Bloodlines that THEY MAY NOT WANT. But you folks in Wesp's camp are insisting that everyone MUST accept a bastardized version of Bloodlines... if they want to get the much-needed bug fixes. That is just plain WRONG, people. And it is also an example of harmful bullying, which is frankly ripping the VTMB community apart. In fact, it already has.

This is why I was inspired to produced the True Patch for VTMB, way back in 2006. Some of us would prefer to stay away from Wesp and his ongoing sabotage of Bloodlines. And the True Patch Gold Edition allows them to do exactly that: play the original Troika game... but without any bugs. Over the years, the True Patch has evolved into what I believe is the finest, most comprehensive and most stable bug-fixes-only patch for Bloodlines that exists.

We did good. We have made our case and we have proven all of our points. And I will continue to support Bloodlines and the True Patch for as long as this web site remains online. That is a promise. 8)

If you folks are enjoying the True Patch, then you need to spread the word on other gaming forums. That way, it will become more popular. Just avoid getting into any fights with Wesp's goons, because they habitually attack anyone who posts anything positive about our patch. Bunch of fucking children, all of them.

QuoteI was sighing and raising my brow while testing it, because I starting finding new bugs, and it was frustrating because it made no sense how a patch would add new issues and already be on (version) 8.whatever in BETA

Yep and we've dissected Wesp's "patch" in great detail around here. I was appalled to see how many new bugs... bugs which never existed in the original game... have been added by Wesp over the years. Not to mention all of those arbitrary and generally poor quality modifications added by Wesp, most of which were submitted to him by the (mostly) teenaged wanna-be's over on the PlanetVampire site. And what's even more infuriating is the way that Wesp makes vague statements within his patch notes... "repaired this" and "repaired that," without ever once mentioning that the things he is repairing are things that he himself broke. That is very deceptive on Wesp's part... and obviously on purpose. He doesn't want anyone to know just how many things he has screwed up over the years. In fact, at this point in his endeavors, I doubt that even Wesp knows exactly how many of those bugs were his own fault. He has effectively painted himself into a corner, with no way out. Hence, Wesp continues to progressively butcher this game with each new iteration of his "unofficial patch." It's absolutely awful.

Far from being any sort of "savior" for Bloodlines, Wesp has in fact managed to utterly rape this game and turn it into an abortion. I suppose that's a fun thing to do... if you're an adolescent. But those of us who are older than 16 years of age would best be served by avoiding Wesp and his "patch" altogether. It's really an ill-conceived and very shoddy piece of work.

I find it really sad and depressing to see how in many weds, many guys laughs from the excellent work of Tessera, trolling and insulting him with total impunity and condescension.

I admire the Tessera's perseverance and persistence, I instead had finished depressed and throwing the towel. Being disowned and treated like dirt in many websites have to be hard.

Don't take it as an attempt to kiss her ass, just that's how I feel when I see the history of the TGP and I reflect about this matter.

There are all sorts of silly reasons for their behavior. One of the unspoken reasons... which none of them
will ever openly admit to... is this:

I unashamedly revel in sex and it is well known that I have a super-gorgeous girlfriend. Not bragging... it's just a fact.

Meanwhile, most of those clowns are very young, very insecure and they never get laid. Celibates, all.
The only sex they ever get is from their right hand. Well, unless they're left-handed.

So is it any wonder that they hate my guts..?

Therefore and in conclusion, let me repeat what I said in a previous post...

I finely figured out what you know who was trying to say in this comment.

Quote+Made NPCs act longer distance to Nosferatu, thanks to EntenSchreck.
Huh?? huh? What? Criptic, Wesp is thy name. Or should I say confusing?

I think he was trying to say "I made it so NPC's will react at a longer distance to a Nosferatu character".

Why is it he can communicate on English speaking forums just fine, but his patch notes SUCK?

This time only few fixes but a lot of minor restorations for the plus version and also some
changes to prepare for the upcoming library level ! (Oh joy, he really gets off on the library issue. God only knows what he's changing for it or how much adding an entire area will screw up.)

v8.3 09.09.2012
----
+Restored guard dog that can do damage to beachhouse, thanks Lenuska. (Why? This is one of the first missions in the game, it almost teaches you about sneaking. Adding a guard dog is pointless.)
+Added missing steam to clinic, Ocean House, Vesuvius and Hollywood.
+Fixed female Gangrel idle and crossbow wield models, thanks DDLullu.
+Restored Kiki to Red Dragon and actors being killed at Ground Zero. (Possible Wesp broke.)
+Corrected new Knox line subtitles and removed cast autoexec binding.
+Restored Kilpatrick, Wong Ho, Yukie and pinball player's sequences.
+Added shaking cables and a hidden Ash sewers whisper for Malkavians.
+Restored Mr. Ox's pipe and made all restored gestures be plus only.
+Removed .38 of Flynn and made the GLOCK of Boris be plus patch only.
+Restored hot tub guy sequence and corrected Chastity disappearance.
+Moved Vesuvius barkeeper to Confession and changed invincible Larry. (What is the reason for moving people?!)
+Changed Gangrel warform to wolf version, thanks to RR_DF_RaptorRed.
+Restored Pearl of Dubai as Celerity powerup and braid for computers.
+Removed Nosferatu change again, because it only affected the radar.  (Restore, remove, rinse, repeat.)
+Repaired temple Chang skin and gave katana to him and blade brother.
+Fixed first person hand for female Tremere, thanks to EntenSchreck.
Hexedited floats in parking garage and downtown hub, thanks DDLullu.
Fixed hacking Krimeputer and added missing particle impact effects.
Restored warform moving again and five interesting place animations.
Repaired bad clockhands in intro, bailbonds and observatory levels.
Fixed sick bum respawning downtown and warehouse locked double door.
Removed bugged plaguebearer sewers lock and Mandarin dialogue loop.
Added BSPDetail, Blender, VampEd and import/export to Extras folder.
Restored SWAT rifle from Mercurio and dropped Chang blade in basic.

Wesp... you make me weep.

As far as his + version...anything go's, it's a mod after all. I mean come-on...I made a totally new bloodline for the game, and
look at the totally cool stuff Tess has made.

But I have some issues with the basic.

The hex-editing of the floats in the parking garage and the downtown hub, is a possible fix, but I don't know if it is because
of Wesps messing with the game, or if it was done to actually fix what Troika screwed up.

The fixed hacking Krimputer, has me confused, the Krimputer doesn't require hacking at all. It is a free-be, unless it is a
leftover form his + version.

Then there is the "Repaired bad clockhands in intro, bailbonds and observatory levels". I don't recall them being bad, unless
he is talking about them reading the same all the time. But none of the clocks change, if they did, then Troika would have had
to added a daylight timer.

It is nice seeing that DDlullu is back and active.

WTF!? Now the warform of a vampire is a wolf? So what is the difference between a Gangrel (vampire) in warform and a Garou (werewolf)?

Why do we even care..?   :P

None of us are stupid enough or unsophisticated enough to use -anything- produced
by that idiotic Nazi clown, so really... who gives a shit..?

Wesp has destroyed Bloodlines. That's old news. And if there are still people out there who
prefer to play Wesp's destroyed version instead of the Troika classic, then they can have it.

As for myself, the combination of the TPG and my Mega-Mod is all the entertainment that
I require from this particular game. No bugs -- no conflicts. It all fits together beautifully.

Your own mileage may vary, of course.

Wesp, on the other hand, has not only sabotaged this game beyond recognition, but he is actually expecting to be PAID for doing so..?

Whatever, man. More power to him. Thankfully, the rest of us have a very nice alternative: it's called the True Patch Gold Edition and it works better than ANY version of Wesp's garbage to date.

I maintain that it will sadly always be important, as long as new people are discovering the game.

These people need the info about the Wesp mods that the zealots will NOT volunteer. They need to know that there ARE choices that they can make, and WHY the choice is so important.

The main problem is not only the fact that Wesp already has a grip on the community due to being the first patch to come out, but the fact that he is extremely good at public relations. He and his followers are quite open and welcoming as long as you don't mention the True Patch.

To this end, I will be maintaining relations as well as I can, if only to get even one person to try the patch and find it's worth it.

Not to me.

As I have said before -- I've already done my part. I've done MORE than my part.

I led the fight to give people an alternative to Wesp's crappy "patch," back in 2006.
A fight which exploded into quite a vicious battle between Wesp and myself.

I then teamed up with a very competent programmer named "Acrimonious" and
together, we started producing an alternative line of third-party patches for VTMB.
We named the result of our work "The True VTMB Patch, " in order to distinguish
it from the mods-masquerading-as-patches being produced by Werner Spahl.

Ultimately I produced the current and most comprehensive patch in the world,
the True Patch Gold Edition, entirely by myself. It is currently the finest quality
"bug-fixes-only" patch available for Bloodlines. That is a fact.

And throughout all of this time, I have hosted a private web site in order to disseminate
the True Patch and provide ongoing technical support for it. All at my own expense.

I have done far more than my part in all of this, ladies and gentlemen.

The current version of the True Patch has been downloaded literally thousands and
thousands of times, by VTMB players from all around the world. It is not at all
difficult to locate the True Patch, nor is it difficult to obtain a copy.

Far from being "obscure," the True Patch has enjoyed quite a sizable following ever
since version 5.04AT was released back in October of 2007... nearly five years ago.

I remain convinced that the most serious and mature Bloodlines players will seek out
the True Patch. And they have been doing exactly that... in ever increasing numbers
over the course of the past five years.

All is well, so far as I am concerned.  8)

Well... it's like I keep saying lately:

I think it is time for us to stop worrying about Wesp and the children that he surrounds himself with.

It's an old feud. And throughout the course of that feud, we have consistently proven our points. We've created the best patch for VTMB purists... we've maintained our moral high ground... and for the most part, we've demonstrated a far greater level of maturity and sophistication than any of the childish little clowns from Wesp's camp.

Bloodlines is just a video game... one of many that I play and enjoy. It's a game that has an understandably strong following here on tessmage.com, but it is by no means the ONLY game that we discuss around here. I'm saying that because I think it is important for all of us to maintain some sense of perspective.

I feel that it is high time that we just let this ancient feud die. We won -- they lost. They don't accept the fact of their loss, but that's exactly why it's pointless to even think about those "PV pee-wees" (as I call them) anymore. They don't get it... they're NEVER going to get it... so to hell with them. Just let them wallow in banality for the rest of their lives. It's obviously what they want... so then, it's exactly what they deserve.

I am very proud of the work that we've done, and I am equally proud of the True Patch community. I consider all of us to be winners -- because we've all stuck to the truth over the years, in spite of the baseless lies and derision, the numerous attempts at sabotage, and the ridiculous amount of peer pressure coming from Wesp's side. Despite all of their best efforts to behave like schoolyard bullies, and in spite of the fact that we have nowhere near the same level of publicity that Wesp currently enjoys, the True Patch has nevertheless quietly and steadily grown in popularity over the years. At present, its popularity amongst Bloodlines players is an an all-time high (based upon the total number of downloads per year).

So it's time to put our feet up, crack open a cold beer and celebrate our achievements... modest though they may be. We've definitely earned it.

At this late stage, those are my thoughts on the matter... for whatever they're worth.  8)

Yeah, that's one of the reasons why I decided to no longer update the OP.

Simply put, I made our point.

If you want a bug free, and unmodified gaming experience, then use the TPG, and you can always add mods later, if you like.
If you don't care that someone is going to add new bugs every-time he updates (his indefinitely in beta mod) every 2 to 3
weeks, then use the UP...have fun getting it to work.

Yes, you most certainly did.

And you made our point in the best way possible: by producing an exhaustive list of actual facts and figures... instead of relying upon an unsubstantiated string of lies and rhetoric, as Wesp has so notoriously done over the years. This entire thread... along with the older thread which preceded it... has conclusively proven that for the past six years, it has been Wesp who has been blatantly lying to people... not us.

This thread presents numerous and entirely accurate facts, all of which can be independently verified by anyone who cares to double-check it on their own. In fact, I have openly invited others to do so, on several occasions. We are not hiding anything. We are not misleading anyone. We are not simply spewing a bunch of prefabricated propaganda, the way Wesp and his groupies routinely spew. The actual facts are all right here... accurately presented in black and white.

From a purely moral standpoint, we have won the infamous "patch war." And we will continue to be the winners, until such time as Wesp or one of his acolytes can produce an accurate list of their own, which refutes and/or supersedes the facts from our own list.

Have a drink on me, Schu. You've earned it. The True Patch wins. ;D

Tessera, or anyone, for that matter,

Has Wesp every explained his reasoning for changing things in the game?   I played less then a year ago what must have been an UP patch/mod game, and noticed some things that were just unexplainable. Things like items no longer in the same place, (the one that comes to mind is the relic you find in the Oceanside Hotel. In the UP version it was no longer there, but replaced with a box that opened, but nothing was in there. You found the item somewhere else later in the game.) Second was Fat Larry's van being switched with the one in the ally next to the church in Downtown. Many others. Some where interesting, the Bobcat forklift at the haunted Mansion slamming into the trailer when you got the keys,  others, like the forklift being pushed forward by the guy in the warehouse.
Why does he think changing some of these around is adding to the game? Any Idea's?
Is it just Ego?  Look what I can do?  Does he ever say why he makes some of these changes?

Some I can understand, even if I don't agree.  Making the Katana or crossbow available at Foxy Boxes.....
Others seem to add some to the game, the bobcat at the Oceanside Motel, it was a bit spooky... and seemed to add to that particular area.
but most, I just don't get....
Any comments or ideas??

No he hasn't. At least not to the satisfaction of the entire community.

All he does is quote something from what one of the developers said in the past, then takes that quote out of context to justify his absurd changes. He is very good at that, and that is why I call him a spin-master (he has done this to me personally many times on the Steam boards).

To be in depth:
Things no-longer being where they used to be, like Fat Larry's truck. He said that it made no sense that Larry would be where he was, because of the security guard at the gate, and the statement of "I saw you comin down the street". Well, Troika gave us a clue about the guard, in his disappearing when we get the quest, and who is to say that Larry is always in the back of his truck (Troika let us use our imaginations, to come up with our own theory's).

The removing the pendent from its original location (in the Ocean House) was just plain stupid, that was the whole idea behind you going there in the first place.

The "Hellcat/Bobcat" mod, and the guy moving the forklift mod, are just that, mods and do not belong in a patch. Unfortunately he claims that they were omitted by Troika, and were intended to be in the game. There is no way for us to know that, so he is assuming and taking what the devs have said out of context, because of the information left on the disks.

Yes, Wesp has a massive EGO, and he will defend it unto death, because he cant handle being told he is in the wrong. I give credit where it is due, and he has talent, but his EGO, and willingness to please stands in the way of being good at what he does.

Tessera, or anyone, for that matter,

Has Wesp every explained his reasoning for changing things in the game?

I hate to sound spiteful, but it's for the same reason that I've mentioned quite a few times in the past. Wesp is primarily surrounded by immature teenagers, and those teenagers have tossed hundreds of stupid ideas at Wesp over the past several years. And for some insecure reason that only Wesp understands, he often tries to fulfill their requests... usually to the detriment of the game, and to the detriment of every single user of his "patch." I am sure that those youngsters have good intentions, but the fact remains that neither they nor Wesp are mature and sophisticated enough to know when to stop. Instead, they have collectively imposed their Sesame Street version of Bloodlines onto every single end user of Wesp's work. All the while insisting that the game is somehow "better" that way. Sadly, it is not... it is much, much more shallow and silly, as compared to the vanilla version.

In most cases, the changes that Wesp has made seem to be intended to make certain parts of the game easier to play. Moving high-end weapons into earlier acts of the game, for example. Or setting it up so that Venus Dare gives the player more money (and more often). Or making it easier to save money on blood bags. Or adding something that Troika decided to cut from the game, called "Blood Heal," as if any decently skilled player would actually need such a thing. Or allowing the player to get all of their points from Act One and -still- be able to have sex with Jeanette (which actually violates WoD canon, when you carefully analyze that situation in its entirety). Lots of idiotic things of that nature have found their way into Wesp's work over the years.

Other changes made by Wesp seem to be completely senseless, as you have observed. It's almost as if he is saying "Hey look... I can change this! I think I will do just that. Look kiddies... I made it different! It's like a whole new game now!" Wesp's changes which fit into that category are almost always completely pointless, and do not seem to serve any legitimate purpose.

I chalk most of this shit up to Wesp's unfortunate tendency to be an insecure people pleaser. Because no sensible third-party patch author would be as irresponsible as Wesp has been. And as he continues to be.

That's the best answer that I can give you.

it's a shame, then, that he has lost control of the beast. I Think the game is damned good as is, (with the Patch in place)  and needs little tweaking afterwards.
I am currently played the Mod Tessera offers, and I find it kinda funny, but I think next time, I am going to reload and play the vanilla game. No complaints to Tess's work, but so much nudity and stuff is a little much for my taste.  lol.   and I had the option to NOT use it, so.....

Thanks for offering some explanation, just wish instead of spending time fixing things that are not broken, he (Wesp) would have spent time developing new mods, like a library quest, or something that adds to the game, not detracts or makes it easy.  If I want easy, then I would just use Cheats..

Precisely right. A mod is a mod, and it must always be OPTIONAL. If the player wants to use a mod such as my own Mega-Mod, then the player should have that option. And if the player decides NOT to use a given mod, whether it be one of mine or anyone else's, then the player should have that option, too. Third-party patches have no business FORCING a mod, or a set of mods in Wesp's case, upon every single end-user. That has always been my position, during this entire so-called "patch war." And it will continue to be my position in the future. No one has the right to force Bloodlines players to accept a bunch of modifications that they do not need, and may not want.

Hey Schu, just wanted to say thanks for your information on UP, just recently picked up VTMB on a steam sale and finally got around to downloading it was looking for a quality mod/patch to use, my search first took me to UP but thanks to your information I am currently downloading TPG and cant wait to get it up and running.

Izule2003, as a more or less 'neutral' party in this, I think you are doing the smart thing. Play the game as it was intended, then try the mods, if you wish. Tess's mods don't really change the game, just adds eye candy, but doesn't really change how the game is played. UP makes some serious changes, and illogical ones at that. It's not just spite, that his "Patch/MOD" is not liked on this board much. It's how it changes a game, that needs little "Fixing" to be an excellent game. As designed, it plays well, with a huge about of replay potential.  Just my Humble opionion!

Yeah I would like to have my first play through to be as close to original as possible but with out bugs, and from what I have now read I agree with you, sounds like the UP changes a lot of stuff and that's not what I am really looking for at the moment.

Izule, your welcome, and glad I could be of help, hope you enjoy the game.  Just don't let Wesp (and his very vocal supporters) try and fool ya. They will try and tell you that the basic version is just bug fixes only, when its not.

Those who are new to Bloodlines generally don't know any better, because they don't want to play the original un-patched game, due to all the bugs.  Then they don't do enough research (if any research), then they load the UP on to the game and ruin the experience of what I consider to be a classic RPG.  Now, don't get me wrong...I like the idea of adding mods to games, they can actually add to the longevity of a game, and keep people playing for years, but they should never be forced.

Exactly the point. And exactly why anything produced by Wesp is an insult to VTMB players everywhere.
Ramming unwanted changes down people's throats is dictatorial, unethical and immoral. Wesp = guilty.

Far from being any sort of "savior" of Bloodlines, Wesp is in fact the person who has done more to sabotage
and undermine this game than anyone else in the world. Literally... he has fucked up VTMB more than anyone
else in this entire world. And for that, he should be despised. Just my opinion of course, but I'm sticking to it.

Hence its no real surprise why he's still trying to fix stuff that he broke in the first place.

Hello guys :D

I just created this account a few moments ago to come in and see what the True Patch was all about. I did not expect to find that it is an old patch that has been going on for about 5 years and that it has been relatively hidden amongst all the others mods/patches for Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines. I also did not expect to see that a literal war had occurred between this mod and the creator, and fan base, of the Unofficial patch a long time ago. Searching through all the forums and sites that talk about patching and modding Bloodlines I did not find even one mention of this patch until earlier today. I found this little forum post about UP...and I was quite...disturbed by what I learned from it.

See I've been using UP since v7.9, or a bit later, and was generally ignorant in what it did to the game and what changes it made. I had a vague sense on what it did by the patch notes and was quite trusting that what Wesp5 was telling was true and fixed problems in the game. I even had a small talk with him with an error I had with 7.9 of his mod that made Larry disappear and he was relatively pleasant. I used that "patch" all the way up to its latest iteration until I started to notice some...issues with it. Bugs in the game that had been there since 7.9 of the patch, and the Larry bug still causing an issue. One issue I had with a change added was a weird ending choice where you could get a dancing werewolf in LaCroix's office as the credits rolled by and a new song played. However the thing would keep going even after the song ended and the credits were done, so it got awkward very quickly. Other things were kid of minor at the time, such as only one person selling blood packs and weird placements of weapons. So I decided to try and find different mods/patches that made the game even better. I then found this little nugget and decided to read what the post was about.

At first I thought it was the typical internet B.S where die hard fans were talking about how crap one mod was against another, and generally blowing smoke up their butts about their patch/mod. However the more I read the more I thought about it. Checking through the list that started this thread I could see what Schu was saying, all these unnecessary changes and adds. They way Wesp5 worded his notes to make it sound like things he patched were problems already in the game, but were actually caused by him. It was an eye opener to say the least. After a while I just felt...angry that I was lied to. Sad that he actually did this kind of thing. And disgusted that I had actually fell for it and enjoyed his changes. AND the fact that he stole most of what was in it? I actually had to sit for awhile and think back to all the times I saw Wesp5 talk to people and realised he did seem to pander to everyone he talked to, saying that he would fix problems or add things in. I don't think he even said 'No' even once. And now that I'm here typing up this message...I still feel betrayed (that may be too strong though). I had to uninstall Bloodlines just to get back the original game again and play it to see what was done to it...I even made a freaking playthrough on my youtube channel! FFS! I USED this mod in my VIDEOS! GODDAMMIT! I actively endorsed the mod! I endorsed this Piece of SH**! I told people that it was a "good" mod that added new "Features" to the game. And now I know this I know I was telling them BULLS**T! It isn't a good mod at all! All those errors in the game were caused by his mod!

And you know what...I'm not even that angry at Wesp5. I more angry at myself. For falling for it. For Actively endorsing the mod...I knew I should've looked more into it. I try to think that nice people = good content and most of the time it works, certain examples it doesn't work is with people like EA and Capcom. But I guess karma had to rear it head. :sigh: Needless to say I'm not going to use his mod anymore. I'm NEVER going to use his mod ever again. You showed me the truth and it freaking burned...but it had to be seen.

I have to say "I apologise. I am sorry that I had used someones mod that affected the game in such a way that it Literally ATE the soul of the game. It ripped apart the effort, time and sweat poured into it by Troika and force fed it to the fans and made THEM sh** all over it. I am sorry that I did not see it sooner. And I am sorry that I...Liked my ignorance at the time"

...What a great way to introduce myself. Sorry for the big wall of text.

And you've experienced it first-hand, too. That weird disappearing Larry bug that you mentioned. There is no such bug in the original game. It's yet another example of Wesp's ineptitude.

And you can bet that in the next release of his "patch," Wesp either didn't mention it at all, or else he added something to the effect of "Fixed a bug that was causing Larry to disappear." Never once openly admitting that HE was the one who broke Larry in the first place.

We have never lied about the True Patch. We have never lied about Wesp, either. If you want to read lies, then they're easy to find. Just head over to PlanetVampire or the Steam boards. The bullshit is piled sky-high over there. Always has been.

Nice first post.  ;D
The nice thing is that, lately, it seems that a few people are learning things the hard way and then finding their way here.
And don't be too hard on yourself about being deceived by wesp and co's propaganda bullshit, they've been at it so long that even "game journalist" have fallen for it.
The only thing you can really do now is educate people about what you've learned.

Oh, and welcome aboard.

Thanks :D Thoguht I'd let you know though that as of this earlier today I have added an edit to my video that had a link to the UP in the description. I have publicly retracted my statement and endorsemont of it and told others to look for other means of patching the game. I hope people will see it :D. I would post a link to it but I don;t think that is allowed here, plus the video has bad audio in it :P

That is hardly surprising, given Wesp's past history. His level of insecurity is rather astounding.

He reads this board, he steals our fixes, he badmouths every aspect of myself and the True Patch and then,
he lies his ass off about all of the above. In short: Wesp is a two-faced Nazi douchebag.

So what else is new..? Fortunately, none of us have to listen to his inane bullshit anymore.

We're doing just fine over here. The sheer number of TPG users has had a major spike during the past year
or so* and that's great news for the larger VTMB community. Let's hope that this trend continues.  8)

* based upon the number of individual TPG downloads from our server.

It's possible, although he wouldn't need an account to read this section of the Forums.

I've always made sure that the Patches area of the board is freely viewable by guests,
as a courtesy to True Patch users who may feel embarrassed to join an adults-only
forum board. And also to make it easier for those people who may be interested
in learning about the True Patch to access that information without any hassles.

It's sad. On one hand people are saying that the True Patch advocates are the hostile ones and the Wesp followers have been nothing but nice... then in another thread they outright claim that the TP was made by a "horrible, horrible person" (debatable) and that we stole the code from Wesp's patch (a lie, and not debatable).

Also, we continue our adventures into mod land. Seems he's coding an option to join sides with the Sabbot. WTF.

It's a propaganda machine, and we are sadly on the losing side. So many people have become convinced that simply put, we are evil, Wesp is god, and the mod is a divine creation incapable of fault.

How are we on the losing side..? We're the people who are playing the REAL game, with a REAL patch, and enjoying REAL quality and integrity.

On their side, there are primarily an ignorant little clique of delusional teenagers, and they stupidly worship a Nazi butcher who has done more to ruin Bloodlines than to help it.

No matter how you look at it -- once you know the actual facts, it seems to me that we're the winners here. Always have been, too.

And for whatever it's worth, the average number of True Patch downloads per month has nearly tripled during the course of the past year.

Not to kick an old horse when it has died but I was looking through http://pcgamingwiki.com/ (http://pcgamingwiki.com/) for some tweaking for games and found an interesting update to the Vampire the masquerade one in the "Unable to run, less than 15mb available". Here is the actual page: http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Vampire:_The_Masquerade_-_Bloodlines#Unable_to_run.2C_less_that_15mb_memory_available (http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Vampire:_The_Masquerade_-_Bloodlines#Unable_to_run.2C_less_that_15mb_memory_available)

But if you don't want to actually see it what someone put is "Update (24/07/14): It has recently come to attention that the creator of the Unofficial patch is actually falsifying updates and deleted content and has been using other mods codes, or placing a mod into his patch, without permission. Changes that he has made have either never been apart of the original designs of Troika or dropped ideas that never got past the planning and implementation stage. Please use the "True" patch for an actual group of fixes to the game."

Looks like someone found out and decided to put it there lols.

I fixed that particular large memory address problem a long time ago, within the initial release of the True Patch Gold Edition. The engine was also optimized slightly, so as to make it run a little better under Windows 7 operating systems. TPG users will never get any weird "out of memory" messages. If you do get such a message when you attempt to launch the game, then you aren't using the True Patch Gold Edition. So dump whatever other "patch" you've been using, and upgrade to the most current version of the TPG. It can be found on our Downloads page and it is 100% free for everyone, including non-members.

As far as Wesp stealing other people's work is concerned, that's old news to me... but perhaps not so well known to most others. I have even caught Wesp stealing some of -my- repairs and inserting them into his own shitty "unofficial patch." Wesp denied it of course, just as Wesp denies everything that he has stolen over the years. He's been caught doing this sort of thing at least a dozen times, and he never fails to come up with excuses and denials each time. Wesp is a thief and a liar -- simple as that. I hope that revelation doesn't shock anyone too severely.  ::)

I'm gratified to see that the larger VTMB community is slowly but surely beginning to realize that, regardless of whether you love or hate me personally, I really have been telling the truth about Wesp... ever since 2006. He's a thief, he's a liar, he's a saboteur. He has done far more to harm Bloodlines and its community than to help it.

The best thing everyone can do is to get as far away from Wesp as possible. And please understand that I don't lose or gain anything one way or the other... it's for YOUR OWN GOOD that I have been giving this advice to Bloodlines players. Wesp has been hurting you, period. So do yourselves a favor and stay away from him.
