Title: YouTube Kills Billions of Video Views Faked By Music Industry
Post by: Cat on December 28, 2012, 11:24:27 AM
http://krykeywebradio.wordpress.com/2012/12/28/youtube-kills-billions-of-video-views-faked-by-music-industry/

QuoteThe video service deleted more than 2 billion fake video views in the channels of Universal, Sony, and RCA, according to Daily Dot. The decision apparently was made when YouTube found out that the companies were using view building services hired from sites such as Fiverr to create video views that never existed.

Sony/BMG's was hit the hardest with views dropping from a total of more than 850 million to just 2.3 million. RCA declined by 159 million views to a total of 120 million. Universal lost more than 1 billion views and now stands below 6 billion.

Google confirmed that the companies violated its terms of services, which prohibits users from artificially inflating video views. Google noted that the view stripping was "an enforcement of [the company's] viewcount policy".

Services that promise the perception of greater user exposure have become commonplace on the web. There are plenty of sites such as YouLikeHits, which allow users to increase the number of Facebook likes and Twitter followers. The tradition goes back to the news aggregation service Digg, which created services that would sell "diggs" to vote Internet content to the front page.

That why all that shit was getting the views it was, of course there was always possibility of view numbers being fucked with.

We should also mention that YouTube will pay you cash if your video gets more than a certain number of views. You just have to sign up with their affiliate program, or whatever they call it. I'm not sure if that has any bearing upon this story, but I felt that it was worthy of note.

Anyway, it's no secret that the music industry is seriously hurting. This story just proves how desperate they have become. Online music piracy has driven several nails into the coffin of the music biz. Within a few years, all but the very largest companies will be pushed out of business altogether.

And I, for one, am delighted. The sniveling little "I know what the public wants" yuppie fucktards in charge of the music biz are directly responsible for the banality of today's music. They deserve to go bankrupt, as a punishment for helping to dumb down... no, change that... RAPE our culture. For the past 20 or so years, modern music has become stupider and stupider. EVERYBODY knows it. And these assholes are the ones who are most directly to blame.

Here something similar:

Justin Bieber & Anne Frank

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7acJL5ZR2g

QuoteThe #fallofjustin continues as half of Justin Bieber's fans on Twitter are revealed to be fakes. Shortly after that story broke, Justin had some interesting things to say on the subject of Anne Frank. I have a feeling that Justin Bieber's antics will only grow more hilariously out-of-touch from here.

And you wonder why shit-heads like Bieber become "famous".

I wasn't aware of Youtube paying cash. One 'channel' I'm subscribed to probably gets more than a bit from that (Justinguitar.com).

Although, I never thought I'd be thankful to Vevo for anything, but they finally brought back the original AC/DC music video for Shook Me all Night Long in high quality, instead of that 'washed out' video that everyone else seemed to have (dailymotion had one slightly better, but still nothing as clear as it should be).

As for music - I'm not going to say the music execs aren't responsible for the generic crap coming out today, but there's always been 'popular' music that was just fun, with no real meaning behind it. Jan and Dean and the Surfari's didn't write the 'deepest' songs in the world, while you had Bob Dylan and his ilk going more for music with meaning.

For good or for ill, the masses do seem to like the generic, noise gated, pitch corrected crap that gets played now. But there's so many farces in the music industry it's hard to know where to start - Dragonforce has some good songs (I don't know if they wrote them or not, and I'm too lazy to check) - they pissed off some of their fans by making the deal with Guitar Hero, but I don't see how you can hold that against them: they're professional musicians, which means they are trying to get paid for their work. Where I have a problem with them is that they can't even play their own songs 'live': I've seen plenty of concert videos of them, and all that 'super perfect speed shredding' isn't exactly there.

Rusty Cooley OTOH, a guy that really can play that fast, consistently, can't seem to get his stuff noticed (at least that I've seen, maybe I'm not looking in the right places).

But this shit has been going on all the way back to when Joan Jett started her own label after being turned down by just about every record company in existence. Before that you had 'Payola' - which is still around, they've just shuffled the deck a little bit to make it all 'legal'. But even back then some singers fought to get noticed and did: I want to say Loretta Lynn who drove from radio station to radio station to get them to actually hear her music and play her songs - and that was at the height of Payola.

Player Piano's were going to kill the music industry, radio cassette players were going to kill the music industry, CD-ROM's were going to kill the music industry... Part of me wishes one of those predictions was right, but they're like cockroaches - just can't kill the buggers.

If YouTube is so worried about views being faked, Then why have they not started to crack down harder? Or at the very least only offer money to legitimate content creators of the website? Or not offer money at all.
