It would seem that YouTube, Google, and the Warner Music Group have had some kind of "fair use" disagreement during a deal that they were trying to make... or something like that. So in response, Google (the parent company of YouTube) has decided to respond by yanking ALL videos which contain ANY music which was published by Warner Music Group. Well to be fair, they aren't exactly yanking those videos. Instead, they're using software to detect any and all WMG songs that are embedded into user videos and then
muting the soundtracks of those videos. Result: silent movies in 2009..! Yay..!!!
Not to mention a wasted upload, by users who only wanted to share their creations with others.
Once again, the public is being inadvertently punished by a bunch of slimy, neo-con fucktards who could care less if their actions are raping our culture and stifling the arts. They just want their money.
Rise up, people. Start doing everything that you can to bypass corporate greed. Share whatever you wanna share with everyone you wanna share it with. Fuck YouTube and fuck Google. Just start setting up your own websites and newsgroups and file exchanges. Strike a blow for freedom of the arts and freedom of expression. DON'T KEEP LETTING THE GREEDY BUSINESSDROIDS WIN. Not this time.
I would also like to point out that a lot of the music in question was originally published by companies that had nothing whatsoever to do with Warner. But in recent times, Warner has been buying up the catalogues of a LOT of older bands... thus, they now feel that they have the right to stifle that material whenever the hell they feel like it. FUCK THAT. Suddenly, Warner feels that they somehow own a piece of my 20-year-old music CD's..? Nevermind the fact that back when I purchased those CD's, Warner had no claims upon them whatsoever. This prostitution of the arts by Warner, Google and YouTube is REVOLTING, people.
Do you really want "change that we can believe in..?" Are those just a bunch of cool words that you like to say and hear... or do you actually walk the walk..? Then start by changing YOURSELVES. Don't keep lying down for this kind of exploitation. Haven't we already had enough of this bullshit..?
Just do it. And to hell with them and their greed. This kind of crap hurts the public. It hurts the artists. It hurts our culture. It hurts our freedoms. The only people it doesn't hurt are the same wretched parasites who have been pulling this "I own it now" bullshit for WAY too long and at everyone else's expense.
